Am I getting burn out on politics? Anyone else?

This is a bit strange of me to say, let alone feel, considering that most here know me to be a rather passionate (albeit at times) person about American politics. The latest news that's going around right now I will comment on quickly, because I think it's only fair to share my feelings on these two issues quickly before I get into my actual tirade on politics:

1. Obama's speech was incredible. He did very well at both counterattacking McCain and the GOP as well as lay out his vision in a more detailed manner. Andrew Sullivan, IMO, nailed it well:

quote:
It was a deeply substantive speech, full of policy detail, full of people other than the candidate, centered overwhelmingly on domestic economic anxiety. It was a liberal speech, more unabashedly, unashamedly liberal than any Democratic acceptance speech since the great era of American liberalism. But it made the case for that liberalism - in the context of the decline of the American dream, and the rise of cynicism and the collapse of cultural unity. His ability to portray that liberalism as a patriotic, unifying, ennobling tradition makes him the most lethal and remarkable Democratic figure since John F Kennedy.

What he didn't do was give an airy, abstract, dreamy confection of rhetoric. The McCain campaign set Obama up as a celebrity airhead, a Paris Hilton of wealth and elitism. And he let them portray him that way, and let them over-reach, and let them punch him again and again ... and then he turned around and destroyed them. If the Rove Republicans thought they were playing with a patsy, they just got a reality check.

.....Above all, he took on national security - face on, full-throttle, enraged, as we should all be, at how disastrously American power has been handled these past eight years. He owned this issue in a way that no Democrat has owned it since Kennedy. That's a transformative event. To my mind, it is vital that both parties get to own the war on Jihadist terror and that we escape this awful Rove-Morris trap that poisons the discourse into narrow and petty partisan abuse of patriotism. Obama did this tonight. We are in his debt.

2. There's plenty that's already been said about McCain's pick here from both sides, so I'll try not to rehash too much. I will say this is one helluva gamble by McCain/Rove here, and in the end it will either propel them forward or crash them hard along with the Republican party down the abyss. It really is an interesting pick on a number of levels. The pick of such an inexperienced individual does take away one of the RNC's primary arguments against Obama, but that argument IMO didn't really sell too terribly well in the first place against him so it may be a wash altogether. And if their game was to go after the woman vote, i.e. the ardent Hillary voters, the social conservative side of her should, in theory, be more than enough to chase away the majority of them from the vote.

I know there's a great deal more that's been said about her, and there will likely be a load more revealed as well. That's the problem with an unknown like her, coupled with the fact that she comes from a sincere corrupt as Republican party state in Alaska where there's a fairly decent chance we may see her connected to that corruption of Stevens and the like. Idle speculation on my part, of course, but anything is possible. I will say probably the most insightful blog to me is Digby, and probably the best analysis of the pick I've read is here:

http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2008...m-back-now.html

The fact that she's a ing hardcore creationist nutbag is more than enough for me personally, but then again there's some 50% of those terribly uneducated individuals here in America who believe creationism should be taught alongside evolution in our schools, so sadly it speaks more volumes about many Americans just as much as it speaks about her.

But my real trouble is, I'm ing sick as of the politics already. I try hard to listen to the media s on TV analyzing every single breath, nose twitch, and every word stated or not stated, and it's just driving me ing nuts. I go over and read the blogs like DKos, the Carpetbagger Report, Digby, Talking Points Memo, etc. to read all the criticism, and then jump over at Red State, National Review, Captain's Quarters, etc. to read all the raves of this pick - and it's all just beginning to really make me ing jagged as hell anymore.

It's all becoming a cacophony of noisy babble from a bunch of squawking baboons where a "gotcha" moments live higher on the priority chain than actual issues and stances, and yes it occurs on both sides as well as in our "unbiased" media. Somewhere the thought of actual issues is completely lost in the argument. In my personal view it appears the last thing McCain wants to do is discuss actual issues in the coming months because it will only remind people just how lovely the past 8 years have been with those issues controlled primarily by McCain's party, especially considering how much more McCain has seemingly dropped his "Maverick" image and jumped with both feet right into the wingnut pond. But then again I might be pleasantly surprised otherwise (I have my sincere doubts, of course). And in my view it also seems like the media blowhards are just waiting to see a gaff by Obama and/or Biden, pouncing on it like a fly to a fresh, hot ing turd, rather than examine if the issues are actually being addressed by Obama and Biden when confronted.

Oh and then you've got the ing roundtable of blowhards on the Chris Matthews show, or Stephanopolis' show, or the "fair and balanced" table of wingnut neocons + 1 centrist at Faux News tell us everything is up when it's down, forwards when it's backwards, blaa blaa ing blaa with a straight face. And then they all expect us to take their "expert" OPINIONS as ing gospel, which sadly many of us do because we're too ing stupid as a nation to actually get off of our asses, read a little bit on our own, and make a few of those critical decisions on who to vote for ON OUR ING OWN.

God, what the has happened to our politics and media s who cover them? Has it always been this way? Is it me, or has it gotten worse?

Which brings me to another point that really burns me hard, something I've covered in the past - who the are these people who are "undecideds"? Why the hell does a large unfortunate proportion of Americans have to be so ing intellectually lazy to where they can't figure out where they stand in politics, let alone where certain politicians stand and who to vote for? You have a race like the one we have today where the issues could not possibly contrast any harder, yet there are those who sit there with one collective thumb in their ass, the other collective thumb in their mouths, wondering who they should vote for and why? Where the have you undecideds been over the past, oh, your entire lives? Are other countries this ing dumb?

And then you've got the obvious negativity of advertisements, which somehow sway voters into moving from one camp into another just for what is said and almost always completely misconstrued the opponents' stance on certain issues or "character." And these stupid ing people actually buy into those ads enough to say, "Hey! That's just wrong! I can't vote for that guy now! Look at what their opponents had to say about them! It must be true! Gosh, I was so darn naive to think I was gonna vote for that guy! Thank goodness I caught that TV ad when I did to set me straight!" I want to know who the these dumbs are, that very small percentage of twits in our country who are actually swayed enough by 30 seconds of biased babble to think that's enough of a sell on a candidate. Because I absolutely must pretend I like them, congratulate them, and then take a nice big dump on their kitchen counter while I skid-mark my ass on their tiling and out the door, stopping to wipe my ass with their mail on the way out.

I'm just sick of the Stupid. I'm sick to death of it. There are just too many ing asinine and lazy people out there that are swayed by the Stupid. And to top it all off, our politicians completely count on that factor for them to win.

So I guess I'm a bit jaded right now. Perhaps it will change, but right now it pisses me off all around. How about you?

Oh yeah, one last thing, a bit unrelated but since I'm ranting I may as well get this off my chest - what the happened to good ol' Progressive music? What the hell is with that Minimal ? So many incredible DJs have resorted to that Rinky-Tinky-Dinky-Tinky-Tinky bull sound that sounds like someone is playing a fork off of glass pitchers, it drives me ing nuts. How the hell does someone listen to that? Is that inspiring to anyone? Does that really move anyone? Where the did the driving bass go? Christ, man.

Well no opus. You get all worked up about anything, spend that much time on it, eventually its going to get tiring. To what end anyway? You read all the angles, hear all the view points, get worked up about this or that. At the end of the day what has changed other than your disposition? In the words of Billy Joel we didn't start the fire but its going to keep burning on and on and on.

Its hard in today's connected world not to get engulfed by all of it. You have to draw a line, take everything in moderation. You mentioned about watching the 24 hour cable nonsense, but this is the very reason I refuse to do so and don't even have a subscription. Your tendency to over extend things is well known around here. Certain people's views will never change no matter what you hit them over the head with. So I often don't see the point in making it a personal quest to see a thread through pages and pages unless you get some sort of enjoyment out of it. Otherwise you let the very people you're championing against wear you down which might have been their intention from the start.

I remember in a thread Occrider was talking about how he spent hours and hours droning over physics research and reports and spatial analysis or some other ridiculousness just to prove a point. All I could think of was why? To do these things it better mean that much to you.

Use some common sense, SLOW DOWN. Take a break. Have a vacation. the misses. The election is around the corner and I have a feeling you're not going to be able to keep yourself away even if you tried.

I'm sorry but this gets one big DUH from me.

Hi Latin,

Go a duck.

Then grow up about 20 more years.

Then disappear or get banned for another 20 more. Considering your propensity for winning the PDD Assclown of the Year Award here, this one shouldn't be difficult.

When you're done with that, I'll let you know when I'm ready to hear that flatulent sound coming out of your grill.

Thanks a bunch.

Seriously, does anyone truly listen to you here anymore? You're nothing but a -starter. That's the only thing you are known here for. Congrats, twit. That asshat fits well on you.

If you had anything spinning between your two ears, you'd realize I made references to both sides. The fact that Obama is still fairly far in the lead both overall and in the swing states of course will always escape you. The fact that your party is about to get their collective ASSES handed to them in both the Senate AND in Congress thanks entirely to your stupid ing president and his utter ruination to your party of course completely escapes you.

But I expect nothing less but your sophmoric bull spewing out of your mouth that adds nothing to any thread other than eventually getting your petty stupid ass suspended, once again. So keep chanting, champ. I expect nothing less from you.........

Opus you are not alone on this TRUST ME.At least the whole electro bandwagon is done and over with(I in hope so).Music has changed alot in the last few years, everyone wants to follow someone else. There is no more quality anymore, and to be honest the only place where I have been able to enjoy good music in the last 2-3 years has been in the psy/Prog trance scene.Thats the only genre that didnt get into the whole minimal/electro bandwagon and there is alot of good quailty music in that scene.I dont know if thats your cup of tea but I think thas that closest thing we have to progressive these days.

p.s. try some sets by Kintar & Rex and see what you think.:p

p.p.s in regards to politics Iam a Canadian and I cant say Iam pleased with the current politics these days either.I cant even imgaine how people like you must feel down there knowing there is sadly a good chance of Mccain winning the race.:(
