This is my review. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, but I just couldn't get into it last night. I guess Digweed's stuff really doesn't do it for me anymore. |
I got there with Highroller around an hour into Fortier's set...the sound was SOOOOO horrible I had flashbacks of the KoolHaus experience earlier this year with Digweed.
While clutching my tightening chest and wiping the sweat from my face with the other arm, I somehow managed to clear the stage gustapo and talk to Digweed right before he started his set....just before Tilal could finish saying to me "Get the of the stage...", I managed to tell Digweed that bass was way to high and the mids and highs were ed...he thanked me...and I thank him for saving the sound.
OK, OK Highroller...I have to agree overall with your synopsis. I enjoyed the set but it was more for nostalgia then anything else. Quite frankly, the best parts of his set for me were some of the techno tracks near the end (in the last 1.5 hours or so). I think our tastes are changing (Highroller and I, and probably others) to a more tekkie sound overall thanks to the recent minimal and techno invasion...so good ol' prog we would have loved 2 years ago just doesn't cut it anymore.
Digweed is a very talented and progressive artist...however, he is no longer "progressive house" for me. His set on Essential Mix last fall (a festival in the UK, can't remember where) and his performance at the boat cruise in Miami at WMC 2008 are what I look to Digweed for now: tech house and some minimal tracks with some rare techno tracks sprinkled in...always some horizontal association on melody to make for a cohesive and very enjoyable set.
I think its great he can switch gears like he did back to prog...but I hope it was a one night thing and not a permanent reversion. |

So Shaya, what happened to your guest list? In the event forum, when we signed up, it said that we would be on Shaya's list. I got to the line with a few other TA's (NuEra+), and you did not have a list. So the girl could not find us on any list.
In the end it did not matter because the regular line was actually shorter than the GL line. |
