Ativan is an anti-anxiety medicine that is also used to impair short-term memory....forgetting their troubles the legal way I suppose? :p As for the anti-depression meds being weak comment that's not very nice Yohan! :whip: Those prescriptions could prevent a lot of people from killing themselves.
I'm wondering how many people are going to commit suicide in some Asian countries over this as suicide rate can be quite high especially when it comes to financial issues :(

In other news....Iceland is near bankruptcy how sad :(

Quite sad indeed.

For such a small country, it's pretty amazing how many other countries are corporations are significantly affected by this!

GE met analyst expectations this morning after it was said they'd probably be 3% short - I wonder if anyone will care.

I think today is going to cap off a week of losses in a really disgusting way. Dow futures are down 2% this morning. Less than 2% of stocks on the TSX are above their 200 day moving averages, which is worse than the bottom of the tech crash - but there are other indicators that say we're not even half way to the trough now. Scary.

Article on Kaupthing being nationalised and how Iceland's banking woes are affecting the UK as 160,000 UK citizens have £2.5bn in deposits there. Mr. Brown isn't too happy about that one!

Flaherty announces measures to stabilize lending industry
Last Updated: Friday, October 10, 2008 | 8:13 AM ET Comments111Recommend56CBC News
Finance Minister Jim Flaherty on Friday announced new measures to ease pressure on financial institutions and stabilize the lending market, in an attempt to assuage concerns over the burgeoning global financial crisis.

Flaherty told reporters in Ottawa his government would buy $25 billion in insured mortgage pools from financial institutions for the purpose of maintaining long-term credit.

"This program is an efficient cost-effective and safe way to support lending in Canada that comes at no fiscal cost to taxpayers," he said.

Flaherty said the action would "make loans and mortgages more available and more affordable for ordinary Canadians and businesses."

On Thursday, Flaherty said he had no doubts over the health of Canada's banks, adding the government has no plan to undertake a massive government bailout similar to those mounted by the United States and other Western countries.
