Don't let them get away with this so easily, 300$ for parking in a handicapped spot is just absurd and obscene, it's not like you burnt a red light or drove over limit in a school zone.

And shame on all the TA's here that think they are holier than the pope:rolleyes:, most of your "recretional" activities are much worse morally than what this guy did.

That maybe something you do in Quebec, but in Canada, we hope that most citizens will do the 'Right' thing and that is pay the fine, especially when you know you're in the wrong.

I understand people trying to get out of a ticket when they had no idea they were in the wrong, but parking in a handicap spot is just ing stupid. Have some respect and just think about what they have to go through on a daily basis. How would you feel if you were handicapped and some idiot was parking in the only handicap spot just because he was too lazy to park somewhere else.

Pay it up and do the right thing.

Who's talking about morals? It's called ACCOUNTABILITY. You know, that thing that adults acquire once their prefrontal cortex is fully developed? Has nothing to do with morality.

I stopped infront of the pita factory here in university plaza in waterloo to pick up a pita. I parked in disabled parking cuz there were no other places, I came out litteraly 2 minutes later, and some fagget is writing me a ticket. He was waiting there like a vulture.

However, I understood what I was doing was against the bylaw, and was fully prepared to pay the 20 dollar fine. But bamm! f#@kin $300 ticket comes in the mail.

So my point is; how do I get out of it?

What I am curious, is how did you get the ticket in the mail?

You saw him write the ticket. Didn't he give it to you? Why did it come in the mail? From your sequence of events... it seems like you ignored it, and was found guilty already in absentia. So based on what you wrote, you're screwed, and can't get out of it. Suck it up.

Ok, now some advice from experience... In Ontario, the parking enforcement officer must either a) physically hand you the ticket, or b) secure the ticket on your vehicle. If either of the above have not been done, your 'ticket' will be thrown out in court.

>>> If you see a parking enforcement office writing you a ticket, get inside your vehicle and drive away before he can finish his ticket. If he can't hand you the ticket, you will not be fined.
This is perfectly legal. I have personally done this on 2 occasions, and never got a ticket. (not in a disabled spot, mind you)

In Quebec, it's another story. They can ticket your vehicle without you physically getting a ticket, and you'll find out about the ticket in the mail. They normally do leave a ticket, but they don't have to, especially when it's cold outside.

Awww she was in a rush? Does that make her handicapped? It's not a "handicapped or if you're in a rush and can't spend the extra 5 minutes to look for parking" spot, it's a "handicapped" spot. Unless you're handicapped, don't park there. Period.

As far as the ridiculous fine amounts, they're that high specifically to deter people from parking in there even if they're only going to be taking 5 minutes. The punishment is overly high because it's more difficult to catch a person who parked there only for 3 minutes. Maybe next time your girlfriend's in a rush, she's going to think if taking the handicapped spot is worth losing $450. That's why it's so high. If fines were only $40, everyone would ing park there. DUH.

Lastly, the fines are that high because it isn't a simple thing like parking on the street that charges $2.00 per hour and not paying. This is taking advantage of a system that was put in place for THE DISABLED. Whining about getting a ticket for it is like getting welfare while working at RIM (that's where you work Dr.Z, right? I've worked there too, i know for a fact they're paying your ass very well), and then complaining that the government put a hefty fine when they caught you cheating the system that was put in place to help the poor.

Suck it up and pay the fine that you deserve. In the future, don't park in the handicapped spots. That's the lesson here: do not do it unless you're handicapped.

Well I think it's obvious from the way he's handling it that he IS retarded. Er ah....I mean, handicapped.

I don't actually mean that. I see an opportunity for a sick burn and I run with it. Sorry. :o

That has nothing to do with Quebec M. Exctacie:rolleyes:, it's all about govt seizing opportunities to turn the ticketing system into their revenue system. With fines that high for a minor offence and parking attendants having to fill daily quotas, it has become ridiculous.

Cities now budget these fines, expecting their parking attendant/policemen to bring that much revenue at the end of the year.

His act was wrong, but the consequences are disproportionate and that’s why he has to fight it.

BTW, Malek, your comparison of what he did to anyone here doing drugs is ing stupid. If anyone here got busted doing drugs they wouldn't make a thread whining about it all like "I just did like 2 lines, it's not like I was doing it for hours. IT WAS 3 MINUTES AND I WAS IN A RUSH GOSH!"

because

a) it's difficult to catch people parked there for only 2 mins

b) it's the lazy taking advantage of system for the handicapped

Frankly, I'm glad the parking officer nabbed him in those 2 minutes. Normally, I hate the pricks, but here, I gotta say I commend him for a job well done.

yeah right a prking offence is worse than encouraging criminal organizations.

People would be ashamed to post about it, it's not even in the same league.
