HDTV Quality: Cable v.s. Satellite.

I've always heard that satellite has a better overall quality when it comes to HD rather than cable. Is there any truth to this?
The picture quality at my parents house for example is impeccable on HD and they use direct tv. I haven't really been exposed too much to cable so I wanted to know if their was a big difference.
My reason for asking is I had ordered Direct Tv but my apt complex will not allow me to have it installed since Direct Tv required drilling so that I could get proper satellite signal.
Many thanks. |

I have used Comcast (cable), ATT Uverse (cable), and Dish Network. Dish Network is the best in quality and also best DVR. You're more prone to losing signal during bad weather but cable has a lot of signal glitches too.
Living in your apt, you can make something that is stable enough for your dish but it's a pain in the ass. Just use cable until you can get a house. Even though the quality is silly better, imo, it's not worth the hassle of making a stable dish platform. |

hey man, i've been using brighthouse for a while now, and even though there hd quality is pretty good, there biggest drawback is that they don't offer as many HD Channels, like DirecTV does. |

Dishnet is adding more 1080p channels to their lineup. Currently they have only one that broadcasts in 1080p, so don't be fooled by their turbo HD BS. It's nothing more than marketing hype. However, the majority of their channels are 1080i and only a few in 720. When it comes to HD, I would go dishnet over Directv. For normal service, go Directv.
Digital cable...lol. Umm no stay away from that garbage. |

dude, as long as your balcony/porch faces south, u can get satellite service. U buy a $25 tripod to mount the dish on. The regular Dishnet/directv birds are 101, 105 110, 119...and to the SE u have the 61.5 or SW the 129 dishnet bird for all your HD programming. |

| The direct tv guy said that I was not able to get satellite since my balcony was not facing the right way. Any way around this without having to drill holes so my apt complex doesn't get their panties in a bunch? |

That's where u have a problem...unless the building management will allow a dish mounted to the building, u are SOL :( When I moved in to my last apartment, I made sure I faced south. |
