Ahh. Here in the US it is really competitive. They both basically offer the same service. Cable has less overall HD channels, but they offer more services that Satellite does not. |

Well considering that their contract runs out in 2010 that will more than likely change. Not to mention NFL sucks. |

| Also, I would expect cable to offer more services that satellite does not than satellite...you know, since they're services that satellite doesn't offer. |

They almost lost in back in 2003 but barely kept the exclusive rights.

Diego,
I have both Dish Network and Brighthouse. If you get BH cable and internet together, the rates are pretty competitive. The quality of cable is very good imo. Maybe not quite as many channels, but really, how many channels do you need? They got all the main ones.
More important than anything is customer service. I've had both companies for over 4 years now, and they both operate at opposite ends of the spectrum.
Brighthouse as the BEST customer service I've experienced in ANY medium (computer companies, wireless cellphones, ANYTHING). They are quick to answer, really friendly, have knowledgeable staff, and are really trying to fix whatever problems you have.
On the other hand, I ing HATE calling Dish Network for ANYTHING. They subcontract/outsource their from A-Z. No matter what I'm trying to get help with, or who I'm talking to, they're all ing clueless and always searching their database for scripted responses. Every time I call billing I get some lady with an Asian accent. Call tech support, you get a guy from some border town, if they have to send someone out, good luck cause all their repair/install guys are subcontracted. Their service is pathetic.
So yeah, I dunno much about DirectTV, but locally here in Central FL, I'd go with Brighthouse. |

I get 27 HD (and digital) channels with my roof antenna, with better picture than any cable or satellite system, and it's free. OTA signal is 100% uncompressed. I don't care about the specialty channels. |
That's a lot of channels for a local area. All you are getting is perfect HD quality broadcasted commercials and all I watch are movie channels, like Showtime for Dexter and Californication. I have a PVR that can record OTA but there is on for locals.
As for cable...they still use analog for many channels...Satellite is all digital. Cable service constantly goes down...satellite never does unless your in the middle of a bad storm. If u lose sat signal with light rain showers and such, well u need to adjust your dish and get a better signal. I only lose service when it's like a tropical storm out. Cable is freaking garbage, and is littered with interference and compression. |
