He wants to raise taxes on the highest earners and distribute the resulting funds to less-wealthy people in the form of health care programs, welfare, and so on. Therefore, he is a socialist-communist-evil-person.

because americans (especially poor ones which is rather ironic) view progressive politics as 'socialism' because they're ignorant/stupid/lied to.
i guarantee 99% of americans dont even know what a communist is. |

I know. That is the sad thing. My best friends father uses them interchangeably. I got on him for it that socialism is NOT communism. The sad thing is he is so dense and thick that he doesn't see the difference. |

Communism is actually a form of anarchism (the "withering-away of the state"). Socialism is a centrally-planned "dictatorship of the proletariat."
...which is inevitably run by the supposed "representatives" of the proles rather than the proles themselves... |

to be honest, 'socialism' came out as a term because 'communism' had been so destroyed by the russians, chinese etc. i use the terms interchangeably, but i do realise that some people might not.
the differences (according to marx) relates to the stage of the evolutionary cycle of capitalism, and 'socialism' was the 'dictatorship of the proletariat' stage before finally moving to communism, the end state for social organisation (supposedly). |
