LOL at anyone who complains about the rigors of school when a majority of their textbooks are filled with pictures (not related to math).

even in good economic times that wouldn't be surprising. too bad you can't do a mulligan and start from the beginning with a relevant degree. not to hate, but communications is likely the top major selected by college football players (after criminal justice).

one of my good friends majored in communications and a 'good job' was sitting behind a desk at a PR firm for 10 hours a day cold calling random executives to see if they needed her to push her newpaper connections to get positive publicity. needless to say, she's now back in school to become a gym teacher.

If only nursing school was simply reading textbooks. Getting up at 5am to get up for clinical rotations. Taking the abuse of preceptors. The ridiculous amount of testing. Nursing school is tough. Even though I'm pretty smart, I got weeded out. I admire people for sticking it out.

hands-on education is far more interesting than programs of self-study, which entail endless hours in library basements. Thus, in my mind, it is less rigorous. Rigorous education is challenging your mental capabilities, not your ability to wake up at a certain hour or rough out abuse by a medical specialist.

in any event, that wasn't directed simply at people in nursing programs. EDIT: i don't think my undergraduate education was all that rigorous even though most of my classes were calculus based (or otherwise quantitative).
