This was posted by Nick on Facebook after the demise of distribution giants Pinnacle and Neutron. What next???
After hearing about the distribution company Neuton going bankrupt earlier this week, today has seen Pinnacle, another major distributor going under. The knock-on effect of this will be massive for the hundreds of labels working with these distributors whose stock and revenue will be lost. This in turn will affect all the artists on those labels. Labels on Pinnacle include Bedrock, Audio Therapy, Hope Recordings, Marine Parade, Distinctive Records... full list here

One of the main reasons for this downfall is the illegal files haring and downloading of music. It would be a much needed boost to the whole music industry if people stopped file sharing and illegal downloads. It will be a sorry day when all your favorite artists can't afford to make music and all your favorite labels are gone.
Enjoy the music, support your artists.

| Surely these distribution companies have sales figures and information. Shouldn't they have seen this coming months ago and changed their business model. |

Nah, it's those damn mp3 downloading kiddies in their parents' basements. They're bringing down the entire stock market as well! |

Nonsense. Is there less music out there now? Can anyone actually imagine a day where all the labels close up shop and no more music is made? This has always been a ridiculous idea. The fact remains that the music industry needs to adapt to a changing market. Either that or call for a bailout... |

| Yea I just don't see it. If anything the recent trend of legal download sites like Beatport is what led to these companies' demise. I don't think people who are downloading music illegally would have otherwise bought it on vinyl. |
