This is posted in c0r because MD gets taken over by trance fanboys, and I wanted this thread to be open to any genre.
There was a lot of genre-bending going on in 2008, with a lot of experimentation that didn't always come to real fruition. There does seem to be a resurgent interest in mashups, bootlegs, and other cross-genre pollination, and I'm already looking forward to where 2009 is headed.
A couple albums that have me saving some cash:
North America/South America (N.A.S.A.) - The Spirit of Apollo:
01 Intro
02 The People Tree (ft. David Byrne, Chali 2na, Gift of Gab, & Z-Trip)
03 Money (ft. David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge, & Z-Trip)
04 N.A.S.A. Music (ft. Method Man, E-40, & DJ Swamp)
05 Way Down (ft. RZA, Barbie Hatch, & John Frusciante)
06 Hip Hop (ft. KRS-One, Fatlip, & Slim Kid Tre)
07 Four Rooms, Earth View
08 Strange Enough (ft. Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, & Fatlip)
09 Spacious Thoughts (ft. Tom Waits & Kool Keith)
10 Gifted (ft. Kanye West, Lykke Li, & Santogold)
11 A Volta (ft. Sizzla, Amanda Blank, & Lovefoxxx)
12 There’s a Party (ft. George Clinton & Chali 2na)
13 Whachadoin? (ft. Spank Rock, M.I.A., Santogold, & Nick Zinner)
14 O Pato (ft. Kool Kojak & DJ Băboa)
15 Samba Soul (ft. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien & DJ Qbert)
16 The Mayor (ft. The Cool Kids, Ghostface Killah, DJ AM, & Scarface)
17 N.A.S.A. Anthem
Some of those are some serious collaborations, and I'm really excited to see two tracks with Santogold and one with M.I.A. and Spank Rock and Gift of Gab, among others.
Gifted (ft. Kanye West, Lykke Li, & Santogold):
Spacious Thoughts (ft. Tom Waits & Kool Keith):
Way Down (ft. RZA, Barbie Hatch, & John Frusciante):
Child Rebel Soldiers - T.B.A. (2009)
No real details, other than a couple of enigmatic interviews by Pharrell and Lupe Fiasco, but this is supposed to be a full album of collabs between N.E.R.D., Kanye, and Lupe. The first track was released in a Kanye mixtape back in May, and featured instrumentation lifted from a Thom Yorke track.
CRS - Us Placers:
Anything else worth looking forward to?

If the new Muse album is really going to be as much like Rage Against the Machine as Bellamy has indicated... my expectations are tempered.

que? last i heard they were considering taking it more electronic, kinda like take a bow was on the previous album (and it was immense live) encapsulating the extra help they have in the guy who plays backing synths & stuff live.

I'm just going off of a comment Bellamy made after that Streets collab over the summer.
Since I haven't seen many other details about how it's going, I just assumed the worst. :(
But I would definitely be excited for another Black Holes-type album.

"Hi guys,
Just thought I'd try and breath a little life back into this page and post an update.
Anyway, we're back in Devon working on a symphonic monster among other things and should hopefully start a bit of real recording in a couple of weeks. Definitely excited and already looking forward to playing this stuff on the road next year..
Its nice to be back down here working on music together which is something we haven't done for a very long time. Maybe about 8 years!.. Jesus, Its been too long. So we've been retracing some old steps and remembering where we came from.
There has also been another addition to the Wolstenholme family. Hopefully they will start their own band one day...
Cheers,
Dom."

Wait, I don't understand. They haven't written anything in eight years? What about Black Holes, Absolution, or Origins of Symmetry?
In any case, "a symphonic monster" sounds a lot more promising than anything having to do with Tom Morello guitar solos.

If she finally gets that album recorded she could finally take over. Stupid babies.
