Be careful what you wish for Dave hehe...

Well ok logically it is NOT a press release, since Insomniac have had released the date about several months ago on their website. They already have announced EDC's dates few months back too...

Press release should relate to announcing the event for the first time, IMO.

This one IS a teaser... not a very attractive teaser though, but it is still a teaser.

Sorry Alan hehe

Not logically? It flat out isn't!

And a press release is simply written information release in some form (email, snail mail, myspace) etc) with the intent for the press to use to announce the information to the public. With the internet, though, it's often easy for the public to be able to find the original press release. Most credible media outlets tend to rewrite the ifnormation in a press release in the own words.

You can have 20 press releases for one even if they wanted. First one with a date, second one announcing a headliner ,another one annuncing more of the lineup, another announcing final details, another announcing any changes due to any number of reasons. '

You catch my drift.

How could you tell that this one is not being used by the press?

Press release by definition is pseudo-news story, written in third person, that seeks to demonstrate to an editor or reporter the newsworthiness of a particular person, event, service or product.

The flyer fits well into this category, since tranceaddict is a forum, we don't know if there is any reporter/editor involved in the discussion board.

Like I said earlier, it is logically not (just by looking at the flyer posted by Insomniac), but it could be :P

Not trying to put you down, but it's a teaser, plain and simple. One of my biggest role while working nine years at the job I was just laid off of (stupid economy) was working heavily with sales & marketing, and I worked in games, music, tv, movies, etc (on content / PRESS MATERIAL, I focused games, but with sales & marketing I worked across everything) and this would absolutely be classified as a teaser.

Dave

bro ive handled a 450million US dollar brand in 15 countries with 60 people reporting to me as AVP for brand marketing...

since youve worked for nine years WITH sales and marketing, then Im sure you know there is no way a Full Service Ad Agency, be it McCann, Dentsu, Saatchi or Ogilvy will do an execution like this as as part of a comprehensive intergrated plan borne out of a Communication Brief or if its just a campaign, then a Creative Brief...

Utter lack of positioning statements, reasons to believe or to raise a real question in the minds of the consumer that can be answered later on betrays what this "thing" is...

im sure people know its coming....a lil more info would have helped to TEASE it a lil better.......with WMC the following week, they should be able to have a to HUGE lineup......wouldnt u think?

Sure lets do this, I am incorrect in saying its Press Release. Its a PR release. Its more Publics Relations Release more than anything. But it all goes under PR.

Refer to body copy. Take that out, put it on an email and send it to the press to write about...double spaced, 14 font, for Immediate Release to all media contacts.

Just because they put it in a flyer, does not make it a teaser. It tries to be a teaser but fails miserably to do so.

Its like a DJ trying to be a DJ by looking like a DJ, with all the records, all the songs, all the equipment. He still is not a DJ, right?

;) ;) ;)

date is an information.

it doesnt make the consumer want to check the event etc as it didnt create a stimuli for consumers to learn more about the event. unless someone is such and buys tickets due to the fact the venue is now larger than before, and other points put out in the flyer.

this is a personality or DJ driven product. no names were mentioned here though.

bottomline, has anybody actually reserved the date or bought a ticket already (presupposing one can purchase tickets now) now that youve seen this Flyer with the date?
