yeah, don't forget to take a converter.

Only necessary if you take things other than a computer or a cell phone. If you do not, no need.

edit//I was talking about the voltage converter. :)

Skip Vienna, nothing to see here!

I did a short Interrail trip when I was 17. Wanted it to be all "spontaneous" and have no fixed timeline and not care about reservations. The result was sleeping under bridges or in highly expensive 3 star hotels cause everything (yes, hostels especially) was fully booked. Lesson learned: Even as a backpacker you need to have at least a vague plan.

Berlin's not that great dudes...

I'd spend the whole summer in Spain! Really check out the sites off the beaten path. Get up in the northern mountains, go camping and fishing outside of Madrid, yes yes, spend some time in Barcelona, and then become a beach bum in the south :)

I plan on going to Europe (London and another city TBA around July) in the fall. I'll bookmark this thread as a handy reference :)

hoping to go to germany this summer but it depends a lot on whether companies/research programs are willing to give my sophomore ass an internship :p

my first choice is very close to bremen -- anybody been there? fairly large city so nightlife probably won't be terrible but don't know much more than that.

Cmon now I know there's more of you out there who can provide your expertise on this subject!
Go to Vienna for your eurorail. They sell it the cheapest compared to internet prices or other stations. You'll have to go to Westbanhoff for the eurorail. And remember its in Vienna. You are young so stay out of boring cities and yes ALL AUSTRIAN cities are boring. But they have the eurorail. So thats why you should go there. Head towards germany and go to Munich, berlin, hamburg, Dusseldorf, amsterdam and copenhagon. Are the places for young people like you. The top three cities for people your age and budget would be amsterdam, berlin, copenhagon. But remember you'll be spending lots of money in amsterdam and copenhagon. they are both really expensive. Really.

I did this during winter (November) and i had no problem winging everything and getting hostels and stuff.

best advice i can give you, is to head to the cities where locals outnumber the tourists... so many hotspots are just ruined by tourists

Indeed you can go pretty wild in most clubs in London.

It would take a year at least to visit all the clubs and parties in our dear capital.
