Ignore all that "culture" stuff in France and Germany - just go to Ibiza for the whole time. :D
Is there anything in particular you want to know about Ibiza, or just how expensive it is? I was there for 2 weeks in September and I'm going back this summer. |

do not listen to him, berlin is all you need for edm.
ps. northern italy > south. |
haha, how did you? wha? Huh?? That thread was like 10 months ago???
OK, ya. I did NOT get into Berghain on my first trip to Berlin and walked away super pissed. (it's a pretty strict door). I did go back later into the spring (flights from London can literally be had for $40) and got to check it out, see Watergate, and overall fill in a lot of the gaps I left from my first visit (and even scored some tickets for Jose Gonzalez at the Admiralpalast on a whim).
So...while Berlin is definitely a place for EDM (comtemporary music/art generally, really) , I thought we were trying to give more general travel advice, and as the previous full page of posts were all like, "Berlin's the best!", I thought it'd be good to bring it back down to earth. If you're going to Europe (EUROPE!) for the very first time, Berlin should not exactly be destination numero uno. It's a huge modern city. It's like going to the States for the first time and making Chicago your main destination. It's not the worst thing you could do in the world, but it is what it is, a giant city that's going to have a lot of overlap from what you've probably seen in other places. With that said, if you do go to Berlin and Berghain, learn how to speak German enough to answer a doorman's questions and don't be intimidated by the tattoos on his face. Also, check out "Diener" near Savignyplatz. |

Well mostly how expensive it is and would it be possible/viable to make it just a short stop of a few days without me spending an arm and a leg? Is there a cheap way to do ibiza is what I'm getting at... Cheap accomodation-wise. I understand there's covers for the clubs and blah blah blah but aside from the partying, can I stay cheap and just make it a quick stop?
Also about the doormen at Berghain... lol I've heard lots about them and I've heard it's really quite a random selection. For instance many people testify to being right in front of a huge group of flamingly obvious tourists who get let in no problem, and then they in turn get rejected next because they "don't like to let tourists in". What kinda questions do they ask lol? I think more than anything I hope those ******s just let me in hahahahahahaah I don't think I could take rejection at the door after coming that far... people have hyped that place up so much it's the one thing I don't want to miss out on ! |

Well, you can do it on the cheap, yes. I got 2 weeks there for £380, though obviously you aren't looking to stay there that long. I believe there's a hostel in San Antonio, near the Ship Inn, which does rooms for 10 Euros. Drinks prices are extortionate, so you'd maybe want to buy a bottle of vodka and drink it in the room before you go out. 12-16 Euros was the price for a vodka in the clubs, a tiny bottle of water was 8-12.
It's well worth it, even if just for a few days. You might end up seriously tempted to stay - it happens to a lot of people. :) |

Hey guys, I wanna explore the more "hidden gems" of my continent and thought of going to either one of the following places:
Copenhagen
Dublin
Tallin
Kiev
Antwerpen
Istanbul
Does anyone have any experience concerning these cities, esp. with regards to nightlife and atmosphere?
much appreciated |

I've been there. Fantastic nightlife. Great Guinness. Wonderful city. Even though the weather sucks there, I strongly recommend it. |

My sister just got back from Kiev and Moscow.
Moscow is easier for people that don't speak Russian. If you don't speak, get someone to take you around that does. Otherwise you will get raped by taxis, shopkeepers, etc. Same in Moscow, but it will be worse there than Kiev. |

You went there for two weeks and spent 380 euros? That means under 28 euros a day??? How do you feed yourself, find a place to stay and party all for 28 euros a day? That is unless you took it easy on the partying but I mean I'm not going to Ibiza to take it easy on the partying. Looks to me like:
10 euros for a hostel (if that works out)
10-20 euros for food
20 euros to get ed up
20 euros for club cover
That's an easy 60-70 euros a day man.... and I could very easily add expenses to that lol. am I missing something? |
