I'd like to use this in my next set, with your permission. That's a floor filler, there.

Mastered by whom? Very few labels, these days, have anything to do with mastering their releases. Back in the days of Vinyl, tracks had to be mastered for pressing, and the cost of professional mastering was recouped from sales. This is the digital age, artists are expected to master tracks themselves, or pay someone out of their own pocket to do it.

Bonzai just signed a few of my tracks, and guess what, the mastering is completely my responsibility. I understand this, because the cost of professional mastering is hardly ever recouped by digital sales. Digital sales are so slow, labels are going out of business.

If there is a label out there that still masters all their releases, I'd sure like to know about it.

It can't hurt to pay to have your tracks professionally mastered, but at best you'll break even with sales. I do my own basic mastering, getting the volume up, ect. I fix EQ problems during mixdown. I know enough to get by. If I ever make enough from sales, I'll pay a pro to do it. There is a difference between amateur and pro mastering, you can usually hear it, and see it in the wavefile readout. A pro mastered track sounds good on every type of sound system, from headpones, to cheap PC speakers, to club sound systems.

Switch pro mastered for properly mixed and you're right on.

Usually translation issues come from poor mixing on ty monitors. If you have nice monitors and mix properly your songs will sound good on everything instead of the speakers they were mixed on.

Here's my Mastered vs Unmastered sample. (A real one, not like some of these)

Why, by MASTER CLAUSE! Ho Ho Ho! Have you been a good mix engineer this year?

^ That.

Our minds interpret louder as better, so I hope ya'll aren't mixing up that phenomenon with improved textural/tonal/whatever quality.

Here are A/B examples from the mastering engineer that I use. Spectacular results and the turnaround times are relatively quick. He's also very easy to work with if you want any changes made to it.
