Its comments like this that show how far people still have to come. Black people have been fighting for equal rights and blah blah blah yet now that a partially black person becomes president its suppose to be this massive event.....to me he's just another human being sworn in as president....no different then any other person who has been president of the USA.

#3 I agree with Sasha and italarmo, who wants to start choosing dates for the first assassination attempt?

I think there are far more people in this world who want to kill Bush than Obama...

anyways, my workplace blocked a number of sites cuz network traffic was going off the charts during the inauguration. So I just went down to the lunch room instead.. :D

The sarcasm went over your head there. A man's skin colour has nothing to do with his ability to run a country. Nevertheless, him getting elected President is still a big deal on various different levels.

The sarcasm was so far over my head I didn't even get a breeze from it :D.

How many of the people their wouldn't have even bothered to go if Obama wasn't black. Mike Pinball Clemens took his family down to the inauguration....I bet he didn't do that for Bush or Clinton. I know some people who have taken their children out of school to watch this....and I know for a fact they never watched a single inauguration prior to this.

People worry more about the politics in the United States than their own countries politics... stupid...

No, it's comments like yours that highlight how little you recognize the significance of the past.

Christopher Columbus wasn't just another dude on a boat, you know.

Various different reasons. For one: most black people watched this because to them it is significant. For others, they voted on the belief that Barack is the beacon of hope for a country that's gone stale and stagnant in it's ways. It got them either back into politics, or introduced them for the first time. Not to mention this is also a clear sign of a new generation taking over the United States. The Baby Boomers are slowly losing their grip and our generation is moving into the spotlight.

What irks me the most is the "free pass" Barack seems to be getting from a lot of people in the black community. Like the guy can do no wrong. And I bet if he does up, it'll just be the white mans fault anyways. lol

Does his skin colour make any difference in his ability to run the country? People are saying this is bringing together the human race....which is absolute bull....people who didn't like black people before this still don't like black people and black people who didn't like white people...guess what....still don't like white people.

The past is the past...time to let go.

Just stop and think for a second that only 60 years ago black people couldn't sit at the front of the bus, or in certain restaurants, or black people still alive today were the essentially property of others.

If you think this is no big deal, I don't really know how to respond to that. I guess I just find it really ignorant.

If you make it a big deal while trying to build a good future the negatives from the past will effect that relationship in the future.

Better to move on, let go of the negatives and build new relationships for a better future.

It's obvious that horrible things happened in the past but that was in the past, to build a better future you have to start clean. We're not saying forget about it, just don't carry it on your shoulder.

and this should be the case for all the negative events from the past, from all over the world, not just about Slavery or Black people in the United States.
