But also, one of the problems is the fact that Avalon and Giant have exclusive rights to many djs so the selection who Circus can book is somewhat limited. The biggest group of djs available is the trance one obviously.

There are lots and lots of quality djs out there. That's why among the mega clubs in the west coast, I commend Avalon's booking guy for a job well done.

Though, I do agree that Avalon has the nastiest crowd.

btw...the Rank 1 flyer says sound by Funktion One. I was assuming Rank 1 was demanding it. Are they really bringing in a Funktion One setup that night (fingers crossed)?

I don't know why but the EAW system at circus sounds like crap. The venue is an acoustic nightmare to begin with...

It was DAVE DEAN who helped circus invest good fortune of money on Avalon series of EAW sound, but it didn't sound nothing like avalon hollywood...(I heard it was cause of the complain from neighborhood) and it sounds like EAW sound system "W/O BASS SPEAKER" and sasha wouldn't spin there with it...

Circus is the spot where this whole super star dj night club scene has started in Hollywood when dave dean started the GIANT!!

sound system matter for EDM...

I know it was Dave Dean who brought EAW to Circus. But that was not the issue here. You said that Sasha wouldn't play there because it's EAW. That's BS. He has played there in the past and he also played at The Mayan who doesn't even have a million dollar sound system! He also played at Avalon who is a pure EAW sound club. So to say Sasha wouldn't play at a club because it has EAW sound is just ridiculous. As a matter of fact, I have seen Sasha play on a ty $500 speak JBL EON system here in LA!

I agree!!! The only time I've seen Circus sound its best was for a concert I went there on a Sunday night. That night it gave Avalon a run for it's money. But then again, they were using the full system including the concert sound they have there that they rarely use. That night they had a different sound guy, which I'm sure it's why it sounded clean!

a club just needs to have a very good sound engineer that knows the system by heart. and of course, knows how to arrange the speakers to get the optimum experience.

Having mostly carpeted floors is a huge plus.

Hence the word "somewhat" limited selection. Of course there are a lot of good djs out there but many of them don't have big enough pull to fill Circus and Circus hasn't established itself the same way as Avalon has (talking about Circus' current situation with no promoter in the house).

A few things about the Rank 1 flyer: 1) Please let it be Funktion One! 2) "Guaranteed sold out event" REALLY?? 3) It's my understanding only Piet is coming to LA so the flyer is a bit misleading. Even the posters at Circus had only Piet on them.

Josh :tongue2 : I can tell you haven't heard Piet play that many times ;)

i'd love to see eddie halliwell back at circus! one of the great things circus has going for it is the DJ-crowd interaction. eddie is amazing with this.

also Armand van Helden... when I saw him there last he was great.

I would say 3 or 4 times at circus. 2 at arena, 1 at vangard, and 1 at armin only in the streets of LA allows me to pass judgement on what his sound is like. Dont get me wrong, He is one of the few trance DJ's that still amuse me. But I would not consider the lineup at Circus on Feb 7th as changing it up by any stretch of the imagination.

The fact is the sound at Circus went to when the club was expanded. It's just too big. It's the same reason you don't see the big names there anymore. The stage presents for the dj is weak. Unless you have a packed house the crowd is too spread out because that room is massive. The big headliners like to have everyone right in front of them. Club goers might like to have some space to move and dance but the djs love to see a completely packed floor. It's hard to do that at circus and its hard to have good sound with so much overall floor space. Makes for bad acoustics.
