While I don't think anyone here would consider him the 'most famous' dj from Toronto, one who has been making a name for himself beyond the border in recent years especially is Patrick DSP.
He may not be touring the globe every weekend yet, but in the past 8 months I have had the pleasure of seeing him rock a party in Moscow and Awakenings NYE, I regret not being able to see him at Love Parade. He regularly plays club gigs and some festivals around Europe and is a familiar face in Brazil. Production wise he is making his mark too, past and present.
Anyways, not surprised by the replies in the thread but just thought he deserved a mention as another Toronto dj actually known outside Ontario. ;) |
Toronto gives no love to their techno-talent, especially those on the harder tip of things. Pretty much anyone from Toronto who wants to 'break out' in techno has moved away from here.
We have quite a few high-quality techno exports that are famous outside of Toronto/Canada.
Hrmm, isnt Jeremy P. Caulfield from Toronto also? |

El K Dee, don't you use a laptop to DJ? So I guess your not a Dj either......and either is Addy, Greg Gow, Aadil, ect....
DJing evolves over time, from records to CD's to laptops to what ever is next. DJ is supposed to be about performing for a crowd and entertaining them through music. Sure one day it literally meant "Disc Jockey", even though that was for the radio guys, but that meaning has evolved to mean so much more. Just like some people insisted using CD's wasn't real DJing at one point (actually, probably still do), people now say that using laptops isn't. I've never used a laptop to DJ, but I can appreciate the people who do. It seems to be that a proper laptop DJ can be even more creative than just using CD's (thats way I moved to CD's, becasue I could be more creative), and that's what it's all about. We creative a sound for the audeince, we don't just play a record from start to finish.
In fact, if you guys had actaully READ the article where Deadmau5 spoke about other Dj's, he was saying he doesn't respect DJ's who just play other people's tracks. He thought that DJ's should be creating their own music and doesn't respect the guys that don't.
Sure, he uses loops and effects and re-edits the tracks live. That is what DJing is all about, creating your own sound. He is a DJ, he plays tracks, he creates his own sound with other tracks, he entertains. |
