Star Trek (pg. 2)

cmay119...this is a "reboot" of the series. Although it has a similar cast of characters and universe, it is not necessarily supposed to "fit" with what's already out there. There is a time-travel plot involved, which from what I hear is supposed to be after Nemesis. Basically a Romulan goes back in time to try to kill Kirk/The Federation before it can have it's impact on the future. Unless you want to count that as continuing the past movies, it's not supposed to have anything else in common. There's enough footage out there that I'm sure people could piece together some way in which this is intimately related to past movies, but it's not.

Yes, I'm a geek, and yes, I'm hoping this movie rocks.

There is a limited series of graphic novels that are supposed to be the build up and back story to this movie. I haven't read it though.

OK, I'm not saying you have to like it, but show a little respect. Star Trek was a pioneer in the genre and its mainstream acceptance.

After posting the videos I realized there were too many plot-holes to be a proper explanation for this movie. The battle scenes in this movie look pretty awesome, though. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Okay,

Stargate:

- Decent action scenes where people get shot, things explode and there's movement.
- Semi-believable science with a grounding in the real world.
- Average and somewhat cliche acting. Some decent funny lines on occasion.
- Cool alien races.
- Some hot women showing flesh every now and then.

Star Trek:

- Boring scenes which involve people who may as well be sitting in their lounge room yelling at the TV. "Fire phasers!", "Go to warp speed 6!"
- ty, ridiculous science. Why is it that when the engines get blown to pieces they can always be fixed from the control room?
- Horrible acting. The original series gets a break because of how old it is, but the new stuff is deplorable.
- ty aliens with plasticine stuck to their heads who really aren't that different to humans anyway. Borgs are gay.
- Weird looking bitches with about as much appeal as your own mum.

hahaha yeah that's all true, but as far as being able to sit down and watch some episodes, ill take star trek NG or DS9 any day of the week. in fact, i really should try and watch the whole DS9. it tried to copy what B5 was doing at the time and by all reports was moderately successful.

Hell yeah.

You should definitely try all of DS9, or at least the Dominion War arc from late season 5 through the end of the series (season 7).
Same for you Domesticated. Watching that will definitely change your tune on ST.

I agree..It kicked ass.

I'm looking forward to seeing this, but I do think 2 other things -

1) This needs to be considered almost as a standalone film not connected with the Star Trek we know, as it'll piss all over the established timelines.

2) It still reeks a bit of Star Trek 90210.

I'll watch it, but only because the genre and the greater economy need my hard earned dollars.

Also, with BSG coming to a close, I'll need something new to get off on.
