Paul van Dyk laptop symphony...
Two things:
a) What the hell are him and the guy on the virus actually doing? I can't hear their input. Granted, I'm at work and only had a cursory listen, but it sounds like a regular symphonic performance to me.
b) van Dyk looks happy. Really happy. At all his trance gigs he's a miserable prick. I think perhaps he realises what idiots his trance crowds are and that he's in a ty genre anyway. |

I have no idea either.

I've always wondered how he got so big as a DJ with that reputation behind him. |

He got that big because he was awesome at what he did.
Listen to some of his sets circa '99; he has(d) this great talent for hovering on the line between hard trance and "regular" trance, maintaining massive energy throughout every set yet still keeping the uplifting and more approachable elements around.
I saw him mostly recently in November 2008 and he was painfully . Before that it was December 2007 at a more "underground" event where he was ing unbelievable. |

Paul van Dyk made a name for himself fifteen, sixteen years ago, back when people didn't give two s about what the DJ looked like. |

I thought Metro was a bit inconsistent. He played some electro-housey stuff which I didn't like but also belted some more traditional trance, and his set flow was a bit weak. Overall very fun but not mind-blowing for me.
Kryal, on the other hand. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. Amazing. Then again, that night I was on pretty much best gear I've ever had, so it may just have been that, but I don't think so. |

He only stormed off after they told him to stop playing.
I would have done the same if Fart Gaysong was playing before me, ran overtime and then some piss-ant local DJ came on after me to open with Arizona - Labyrinth at ing 7am when I'd been playing borderline hard trance.
Then again, in defence of Trent, he may have been asked to clear the dance floor due to licensing restrictions and the need to empty the venue as quickly as possible. This would also explain why van Dyk was kicked off the decks. Do you have any idea why he was? I never bothered to find out or to ask anyone.
p.s I troll and hijack my own threads. I don't play by anyone's rules, not even my own. Werd. |

:stongue: funnily enough we have conflicting stories as to what happened but thats always going to be the case from the spectators perspective. |

So yours was that van Dyk didn't want to play anymore? That's interesting, because we were up front and everyone in our group had the impression he was having a great time and I was pretty pissed off when he stopped playing. I'm not sure though. Again, no one ever confirmed what happened. Could be time to start doing some digging back through old forum threads and find out. :haha: |
