honestly never really liked the guy in the first place. and pineapple express was horrendous. also, did you know that seth rogen was the antagonist's friend in donnie darko? just noticed that the other day.

That period of hip hop is totally vacant from my mind. I think I stopped at Dr. Dre's Chronic 2001 and peppered in a little Roots and Eminem since then... otherwise, the that gets put out these days is, well, IMO. Not that you care... I'm just bored and ramblin. lol

I never really cared for Eminem. Ja Rule's singles usually blow, but some of his other stuff isn't bad - he's actually a semi-decent rapper.

As for no modern hip-hop, that seems like a popular mentality, but I just don't get it. Guys like Common, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Wale, etc. are way better lyrically than Snoop or Dre, and are much more interesting to me. Only Rakim and Q-Tip can really stand above those guys in my opinion.

The Roots are good though - amazing live band.

that video clip isn't that bad. Yeah man, I love The Roots... saw them play with 311 a few years ago and saw them again last year in Charlotte. It's rediculous how talented those guys are, especially with the instruments.

I guess Common isn't so bad either. I'm not familiar with Lipe Fiasco or Talib Kweli so I'll have to check those fools out. I like the guy that raps for the Gorillaz though. For me, my favorites are the stuff from the Wu, as a group and their individual releases (Liquid Swords FTW)... I love the RZA's dark sound and hooks the best. Not that I'm a music critic or anything, but I think he's one of the most gifted in that genre all time.

Have we agreed that Seth Rogen is an overrated somewhat unfunny bastard then? Posting our favorite hip hop songs now?

I've got one if so

I really like this one...I think it'll divide opinions, but let's see

Lupe is hands-down the best rapper alive right now (in my opinion). His stuff is really good. Killed Kanye on this one:

Wale sounds a lot like him, but he's mainly just big around DC, since that's where he's from. I think he'll probably blow up soon though.

Talib Kweli is kind of old school, kind of new school - he and Mos Def did a lot of collaborations before going their separate ways, but he's great too.

Can't find one that will let me embed, but this is his best single:

Oh, I was gonna say - he was supposed to release one in 2007 sometime and it never actually got released as far as I know, and news has been pretty scarce.

Your concern vis a vis Ja Rule is deeply troubling.

Pineapple Express was quite enjoyable. But I can see how people can get tired of looking at him after a while.
