Someone should try to go without both Internet and TV. Oh, and only watch movies in theaters, because you can just as easily fritter away hours watching DVD movies at home as you can watching TV shows.

I'm doing it right now. I'm supposed to be writing my dissertation in the library, but I keep flicking over to TA. Although I'm writing about the nuclear tests in the Pacific in the early 1950s now and Orbital's "Forever" just came on Last.fm. ing beautiful moment.

Certainly. You can always find something to waste your time with. But I dunno...even if that happened, wouldn't it at least be interesting to have a different set of time-wasters from most people for a year or so?

Yeah, I haven't thought it all the way through, but right now I can't imagine anything as useless of a time waster as internet. There will always be something that will distract me. Like studying, then looking out the window to see that spring is here and ending up spending next three hours taking a nap on a grass outside or going for a drive. Or deciding to take a quick break to listen to a couple of tracks only to get back to studying hours later, after having a major mix/shuffle jam session. But to me, none of these things are as harmful as spending an hour on fail blog or youtube and destroying my eye vision (I've been wearing glasses for over two years now and already need new, much stronger lenses). |

I'm doing it right now, too, although not with anything as weighty as a dissertation. Just a short weekly paper.

I'm not on TA that often anymore. It's mostly networking via IM and Facebook, news, and research. That's kind of important to me.
