99.999% of all rock/pop songs are done by an engineer/ghost producer, you dont see those fans complaining.
Its not a big deal, its just that people seem to expect EDM to be done entirely by one person on his own.
Its all marketing, the artist name is a brand, and behind it can be more producers. Its like its always been, unless you are Moby.
What counts is the result of the music.
Which one was it ? |
I didn't bother reading the rest of the thread because this summarised my view perfectly. Its much better for Sasha and Charlie to release stuff as "Sasha" because the name is already established, so more people will buy it. Its not about buying a record by sasha, its about buying a "Sasha" record.
I'd also just add that I find it really difficult to completely produce a track myself, because you need a certain amount of distance between the writing/inspiration/conception phase and the engineering/mixing/structuring phase. Doing both at once is really hard.
PS
Good job for actually starting a worthwhile thread Kismet:stongue: |

That actually isn't true, lately he has been producing again (mostly remixes though). You can really hear the difference when somebody else is creating the Tiësto tracks or when he does it himself. I think that the album 'Just Be' was produced by other that himself, around that time, he became no1 DJ, so I think he was really busy touring and didn't really had the time to produce but a album had to come. I think that 'Elements of Life' as well as 'In my memory', are Tiësto's self-produced albums. Compare them with 'Just be' and you'll hear what I mean.
I never heard Stoneface & Terminal ever produced for him (their biography doesn't state anything like that), I did heard that Mark Norman some of his music, I wouldn't know why Tiësto would search artist outside the Black Hole stable to make his music.
I think his own stuff is way better! | the name of Tiesto`s engineer is Dennis Waakop Reijers-Fraaij. He was producing some tracks under Denzel D, if you look up these tracks you will hear it.
Geert Hunink is one of the frequent producers/composers working with Tieso too.
Still though, Tiesto is very much involved in the productions.
One recent track from his ISOS compilation `Dokmai - Reason To Believe` was produced by Tiesto and 5 other people!
He has been involved in several other tracks recently using different aliases.
According to Tiesto himself he does 65% of the work the engineer 35% |

Activa (Rob Stevenson) does a lot of ghost producing for other artists - most recently : Alen Mann,Jon O'bir,Kane Nelson...
he's the engineer on most of their tracks, but tbh,all i can hear is the Activa sound - it might aswell be him.
As a producer myself,i cant say id be happy with anyone ghost producing for me,id rather do it all my self - you get more satisfaction that way - instead of having at the back of your mind that it wasnt all your own work,as i m sure a lot of producers feel if they had a large percantage of their tracks made for them. |

If Sam La More is behind all these tracks then i agree he is really talented and seems to have his finger on the pulse as to whats in, in the dance music scene |

It's funny too - people always diss Tiësto for using outside producers and act like it's a big secret, even though all the people working for him get credited every single time.
, I wouldn't mind having a producer/engineer myself. That way I could just focus on the creative process rather than the tedious task of endlessly tweaking a synth until it sounds right. Or the other way around - I wouldn't mind producing for someone else. |
