we all know americans have great taste, you just have to look at reality tv, budweiser, perez hilton, and a whole bunch of other that no one else in the world cares about. (including american "football" and "it was only the angle that makes my gf look like a whore with a bad dye job".
"i play once a week and get 10 minute breaks between plays"
haha... I'm just as sickened by reality tv, perez hilton, and several other things that could be mentioned. Trust me, it's ing embarrassing for those things to be considered "American." But don't tell me the meathead soccer houligans all over the world who start fights and throw bananas at black soccer players are sophisticated.
So, yeah gameday for American football is once a week, but training camp and practice goes pretty much all year. It's a brutal sport reserved for guys who are tough. You got a huge percentage of them in debilitated condition when they're in their 40's and 50's. And it's true that you need 15-20 coaches because it's so complex. I watch soccer games and see them falling down all over the field, writhing in pain like their legs are broken anytime they get breathed on... and hockey... lord. You got guys like Sean Avery dressing in women's clothing and spending his time judging clothes at fashion shows. :stongue:

you obviously know nothing about hockey.
imagine getting hit a few times a week and then getting a breather while the defense hops on the field. I am not trying to say football players are not great athletes, just that everyone's role on the team is very one dimensional. The reason for the nfl's success is that the sport is so slow moving that it is a total cash cow in regards to advertising. Also, when players have beef with each other, the way to resolve it is to dance like a turkey in mocking fashion and to make wwe style soundbites after the game.
now to hockey.
The sport moves to fast for most A.D.D american fans to follow. (you only have to look at that ridiculous glowing puck fox put in to place a few years back.) In this sport, you often play 3 times a week and travel 3 times or more a week (you are a traveler, so you know how hard this can be). To play the game you have to play offense and defence, one little mistake can often mean the game. Goalies get galvanized rubber (that is frozen on top of it to prevent bouncing, so it is hard a is a rock) shot at their heads at over 100 mph. Players get hit hard, and on ice and skates as a former player of both sports it grinds you down a hell of a lot more. There is no turf to protect you in this sport. If someone pisses you off, you leave the chicken dancing to the mascots, drop your gloves, and beat the living out of the next guy. Anyone can learn to run, try doing all of this on skates.;)
who is tougher? (you only have to look at the lack of teeth on most nhl players to tell you that, there is no carting off here, you get up and you ing play unless you are so ed up that you can't.)
I am willing to bet that Derek Boogard (aka the boogeyman at 6"8' 285 lbs) can beat the living out of any nfl player you try to name. Also that Dion Phaneuf can hit harder.;)
Funny you mention Sean Avery. No one outside the US even recognizes the guy, because we prefer the skill sets of real hockey players over a drama queen who is in the nhl because of his sideshow mouth running. (albeit he has been playing well since he came back from mandatory psychological intervention from the league.)
I respect aussie no rules guys way more than nfl'ers even if i don't understand the sport.
he literally broke his face here ;)
the guy needed wire after this so his cheeks did not look like a gang raped anus.
notice how much less equipment they have too;)
i will stop arguing if you agree that baseball is not a sport, and that real men don't have to chop block and dive at someones knees to make them feel pain:p

I know I'm late on this one and they ed up a bunch of chances but what a comeback!
Leafs outplayed the Sabres imo
Buffalo just got lucky on some nice shots
Miller pwned that game
and I don't know what you're so excited about - Cujo is all hype.
Best goalie T.O ever had was old Eddie Belfour
he gave them two amazing seasons in 2002 and 2003
smellyblack
the best goalies toronto ever had was johnny bower and terry sawchuck. It is why they have not won all in the last 42 years.

Because brutal = good, right? Clearly boxing is the best sport ever conceived. Why the do we even bother with other sports?

There's no way that guy you mentioned could beat the hell out of Shawn Merriman...lol. But I understand where you're coming from man... I'm not saying Hockey players are pussies by any means. And neither are NFL guys, who's average career life-span is about 3-5 years. Look what happened to Anquan Boldin last year... he got his face and jaw smashed catching a ball and was unconscious. A few weeks of eating through a straw and he was back on the field after being expected to miss the rest of the season and playoffs.
I just think hockey is less complex and therefore more appealing to simpletons (not referring to you). That's not a blanket statement, because I know the NFL has it's fair share of knuckle dragger fans too. But it's more of a thinking man's game than people assume, except for the 1 on 1 positions on the outside like receiver and the defensive backs on the other side of the ball. Playbooks usually have 800-1000 plays for offense and the same for defense; it takes years in one system to start nailing it down. By that regard, I think it's a more sophisticated and better sport.
All that sideshow bull with the chicken dances is annoying, I'll give you that... I can't stand it. And, baseball, yeah... that seems more of a refined skill than a sport. I mean, don't get me wrong there are some awesome athletes in baseball, but you also have fat tubs of that play only because their hand-eye coordination is so good. Plus, having no clock is boring. I like watching baseball though, especiallt towards the last couple months of the season and into playoffs but only because I'm originally from Boston and was indoctrinated into Red Sox Nation from birth. haha

Hey, I can appreciate the technical merits involved in boxing... it's not just a matter of outslugging the other guy
Lebezniatnikov
I'm from Minnesota, so I love hockey. That said, I played football for 12 years, and I can assure you that it separates the men from the boys unlike any other sport I've seen. I don't think there's another sport that meshes physical toughness with strategy as well. If anything is wrong with football, it's actually that it's too brutal - I broke my femur twice in three years.

technical merits. It's all about proving you're a real man. By proxy, of course, if you're a fan. Don't you get sports at all?
