i played slotback in football (a canadian football position, think of it as an extra hb.) I give props to football players, just i think that in hockey the players need to be the ones thinking more than the coaches. Also: most hockey players know how to read.

correct. I only made the switch to goalie at 14. Can you spot me before i played this position? I had to wear the goalie mask because i was too brown.:p (i played canadian football, the same thing with one extra player and the field, a few minor rule differences and a bigger playing surface)

Did they teach you to play the butterfly? That position is very dangerous to teach to children, because of the un natural positioning and movement of the legs. Knee problems, ankle problems, and lower back problems. I can also tell you that when you start playing high level hockey (i stopped after midget AAA, although i still played in garage and company leagues after that up until now), equipment or not, big shooters = ouch, not to mention when players take a run at you to get you off your game.

I will always be a fan of the game no matter who my affiliations lie with. The history of the sport is very interesting, especially at goalie during the pre mask era. People like Jacques Plante who took pucks to a helmet less head = tough bastards. :)
