For your first time, I'd 100% recommend going tandem - the best part is the initial jump/free-fall, and going Tandem you get a good 30 seconds of it before having to open your chute - and having someone else strapped to your back is the last thing on your mind.
I think I'm going to go again this summer, and will probably do tandem. If I was going to be doing it regularly I'd start working towards a solo-jump, but as a "Once a summer" type thing, I'd do tandem again.
If your going to do it, why don't you come with us. Kind of like a farwell to summer (it will be the end of August).

The closest Drop Zone to Toronto is The Parachute School of Toronto Limited. That is where I completed my first jump. Wicked view of Lake Simcoe too.

They have a swoop pond at Skydive Burnaby that they use for this purpose, to swoop down and see how far they can skim across the pond. Just another reason to go to Skydive Burnaby instead of some other skydive place lol
