I've heard trance is really a singles medium. I agree, and that's because in the end, it's when it's in a Mix that it's truelly complete. A trance album wouldn't make much sense unless it's all mixed together. |
No, that's what the current system has created. Lazy producers create the current system. An album can take you on a journey just as much if not more than a mix can. An album has the mystique that it is all from one person thus a good album is much better than a good mix. Think of it this way. When you hear 12 sensational songs in a row on an album as well as a mix, which one blows your mind more? A good album is FAR more difficult to find than a good mix but when you find one I believe they blow mixes away. Just by sheer numbers. There are a lot of people capable of making amazing mixes. I'd say in EDM in my opinion I've listened to maybe 30-40 full albums and i'd say 5-6 of them took me on journeys and left me exasperated. |

So theres hope but to get there its important to stop making tracks dj friendly. no one can put up with that anymore. |
Are you kidding me? Just because a track starts with a kick and has an intro and an outro suitable for a dj doesn't effect its consumer likability. |

Here's something I've been wondering about for a long time.
Is there really an audience for EDM beside the people who wither produce it or play it (as DJs)? I listen to House all day long, and I mean all day long, but that's only because
a) I enjoy it because of the production that went in to it, and I recognize the effort and thought that the producer put into it
b) I'm looking for DJ material
I don't think I would casually listen to it if I weren't an aspiring/n00b DJ/producer, and I have only rarely come across people who just listen to this type of music, and doesn't own at least two decks and a mixer. Those who don't own it, are all currently saving up for it
So, is this all just a big pyramid scheme?
Yes, there are the club goers, but I've always thought that the people who go to clubs often also wants to be DJ's.
Thoughts? Or am I just jaded? |
i know lots of my friends listen to EDM more so house and electro but they still listen to it///
it is mostly like MOS stuff but occasionally theyll download there own...
trance on the other hand... only got a few mates that listen to that and out of 6 theres 3 that produce/DJ lol
i think because of how commercial house and electro is these days alot of people listen to it as there main source of music.. (speaking for australia here)
(rock and those "more" commercial genres are still more popular however) |

I think the ratio of trance listeners to producers is not too far from that of people who listen rock (including all sub genres) and play guitar.
At least from what i see around me in school and such. |

I didn't know anyone in school who made any decent electronic music:p
But I generally find that, while what you said is definately true for production, it really doesn't hold for DJing. Everyone who listens DJs just about... |

one exception i can think of is aphex twin - drukqs... not a mix, but still a journey. |
