How many people actually download mixes from here? (pg. 2)

I don't download that much personally, but the main reason for that is every time i download a mix, i end up binning it after listening to it, for one of two reasons:
1 the mixing isn't very good, or
2 i simply don't like the tunes (or rather i only like say 5 tunes out of 15)
But let's be honest it really depends what style of music you upload; for instance if you upload hardcore gabba chances are not many people will download it. I post a few mixes here and get very little feedback, eg my latest Kai Tracid Mix that i made, which is hardish trance and has no comments, but i guess you could say because i don't comment much on others' sets then that's the reason :)
But why is it that some people have tonnes of replies and others none? I don't really mind me getting few replies, i just wonder, for instance any time i browse this forum this guy Clovis always has tonnes of replies for his sets. I downloaded one of his sets one time, but the style of music he plays does nothing for me, but his sets always seem to attract a lot of replies. |

clovis is very active in other forums, and if you put musical preference aside, he is technically a good dj:) |

Hahaha I dl'ed clovis latest set as well to see what all the fuss was about. He is technically solid for sure but I think getting all the support he does is friends of the forum sort of thing.
For me my only issue is time. I have several well known djs that I consistently listen to their shows and they stack up. Unless you are spinning something crazy different that I'm sure I haven't heard (I dl lots of dubstep here) it's just not worth the time. However I take in what people say in their comments about others mixes and such and if I see something interesting I will dl it, although it usually takes a while for me to listen to it.
Bottom line...there are just a lot of people posting stuff here everyday, a lot gets lost in the fray. If you don't post but once a month it's tough to get noticed. |

Yeah i'm not doubting that, but i'm sure that there are also dozens of technically gifted djs on TA that post mixes that barely get 1 reply and frankly i'm not going to download someone's mix just to analyze it from a technical viewpoint if the tunes do nothing for me :) |

| Only made one mix and was pretty pleased with the comments it got... but I try and listen to a variety of different mixes on this forum, I find it to be a great way to introduce me to new tracks I probably normally wouldn't have found on a typical Beatport run... every mix I hear I tend to find one or two tracks that I'm into. |

| There is always an influx of mixes being posted in this forum, and I don't JUST listen to the genre I'm most familiar with, I branch out quite often (rarely into house/techno) into other genres that I probably wouldn't spin. I participated in the last Genre Challenge and am participating in the current one as well. These are great ways to expose your talents, tastes, and ideas to people who you generally wouldn't listen to anything from. I've heard lots of cool stuff just by downloading and listening to a lot of other people's sets. Remember, if you download, ALWAYS leave feedback! |

I download a fair few sets from here but sometimes I simply forget to leave a comment or review. I also don't like posting the same thing someone else has already said.
I post mixes here now and then and think that generally the amount of support you get is relative to how much feedback and support you show towards other posters.
I couldn't really give a rats ass if no one downloads a mix I post here, but it is nice to get some recognition for something that you're passionate about doing. |

I download a lot of sets from here more than anywhere else. This sub-forum opened me to a lot of music I probably wouldn't have heard otherwise. As a DJ, you can say that my biggest influence is this place. :)
I don't know what genre you're spinning but if you're spinning Trance, chances are that you won't get a single reply, mainly, for two reasons:
1) Most of us who are very active on this forum have moved on from Trance into other genres like House and Techno and therefore are more likely to download sets from TAs who spin that type of music. Between looking for new music, spinning, and our daily activities, there's not much time to listen to mixes so I rather spend it wisely on music that I know I will enjoy and that I know I will get something valuable out of. I'm speaking for myself here but I'm sure this is the case with some of us.
2) Speaking from personal experience, people who listen to Trance aren't that open to listen to stuff outside the DJs they already know. When I was into Trance, I thought Tiesto, Armin, Oakie, PvD, Ferry Corsten, and Marcus Schulz were the gods of music and nothing else was worthy of my time. I just couldn't see how any of "these wannabes on DJ Promotion" could even compare.
I could be way off here, but that's the best explanation I can come up with considering that TA still has a big Trance following and yet the Trance mixes on this sub-forum are always the ones with the least replies. :p
My best advice would be to download sets from others, listen to them and give constructive feedback. There is a lot of talent in this place so you can't lose. ;) |

I made the experience that it doesn't really matter wether you download a regular Trance/Progressive show of a known DJ or an Ableton set by someone of the Promotion area. They all sound very much alike to me. So I usually don't leave comments if I should sometimes download it.
But there are some things preventing me from downloading. Titles like "my newest mix" for example I don't even open. Most people don't give their mixes names or just give them a generic radio show title and not to forget the counting "001". As if they ever reach 100 mixes in a sequel...
So if you read "Suggested Guidlines for Naming Your Mix" and name your mix properly, providing a tracklist and upload it in at least 192kbit/s, you did all you could. The rest is up to the visitors.

| Actually, I think a lot of people down load mixes. They just don't say anything. But box.net tell me everytime someone down loads any mixes of mine. And it's a lot. |

Well I don't know if you ever noticed but a lot of the mixes that are posted here are generally left by people who arenot regular TA users, i.e. people who sign up and don't really post on TA, other than sharing their mixes.
That's what I did early on. I signed up in order to post a mix that I had made, and I got no replies at all. I don't think it had to do with the genre so much as people jut not being too inclined to listen to a mix from somebody they never heard of.
I try to listen to a fair amount of mixes, but I normally wouldn't stray too far out of my comfort zone. A lot of the mixes that are posted here do not interest me in the least, but if I see something I like I'll try my best to listen and leave a comment.
And I agree, Stu should make a mix! |
