i haven't paid for a single parking ticket in about 7 years of living in toronto. its really quite simple to challenge them, and you get to park pretty much everywhere you want. can't beat the convenience! |
there was an article a while ago that mentioned that Toronto got a bunch of new court rooms specifically to hear parking ticket disputes.. so supposedly any new tickets you get and challenge will actually result in a court date.

So you knowingly parked in a pay parking spot and didn't pay? Why not suck it up and admit you were in the wrong and just pay the ticket instead of wasting tax payers money fighting it in court. People like you make me sick. |
buddy relax yourself, 10 more minutes and it would have been free to park there. dont make it sound like i parked in the middle of yonge and blocked 3 lanes.
dam right ill fight it, you know why?
because parking tickets are the biggest scam our city pulls. my friends got tickets on my street at 2am even though there is no signs saying you can't park at night
some more info just for you:
"The city of Toronto has ramped up the issuance of parking tickets to the point where 2.7 million tickets are issued every year."
"Last year alone the city collected $79 million from parking tickets. Enforcement officers are encouraged to ticket whenever possible, and as a result things have gotten out of hand."

i going to court soon for one of my parking tickets, suprisingly they actualy set a court date
i parked at king ST without paying, its free after 12 i think, and i got a ticket at 11 50.
what should i say in court? does the parking officer have to come? |
here's the sequence of things you should do:
1. upon receiving notification of the trial date, file for evidence disclosure from the prosecution
2. about 2 weeks prior to trial, when the evidence has not been forthcoming(because they almost never have their together), file a motion before the court to have the charges "stayed" due to the prosecution's failure to comply with said disclosure.
3. the justice of the peace(judge) prob won't allow a stay of proceedings, but will adjourn the trial to a later date to provide the prosecution with time to comply.
4. upon receipt of the new trial date, file again for evidence disclosure. if they comply, see step 5, if they don't go back to step 3 and replace "adjourn" with "charges stayed"(you're done).
5. 2 weeks before trial file an 11b motion to have charges stayed due to your right to a speedy trial being violated.
6. plead your motion and win(it will have now taken prob 2 years to come to trial).
7. if the above goes through without a stay at any point, you MAY have to actually argue a case - which is not hard btw - IF the officer shows up EVERY SINGLE TIME.
done. |

see my legal advice above first.
second, this won't make a dent. 90% of tickets are thrown out, and they've actually taken AWAY court time in the past year or so. its a game that anyone can win if they wish. |

2. Wrong. So long it's in a conspicuous place, it's valid. |
wrong. it must be properly affixed to the car.
every case i've argued where it WASN'T the windshield has been thrown out. case law ftw. |

because, for one, many of the parking signs that adorn our lovely streets do not actually pertain to any law on the books.
example: there is no law stating that past a NO PARKING sign you cannot park. instead the bylaws actually state that you cannot park closer than 3m to any intersection. you are perfectly legally entitled to park in such a place, sign or no sign.
now tell me how you feel when you know that the signs we have posted actually are legally erroneous?
and now tell me how you feel when you know parking officers ticket according the signs, NOT the actual law?
and finally, if there was an actual reason to pay for parking, other than simple revenue generation, i'd comply. but there isn't - its there to make money, pure and simple. |

| Even if you fight the tickets and they are in court. If you need to renew anything (while you are waiting for a court date for the parking tickets) they will make you pay for each single ticket in order get anything renewed... |

if the owner of the trailer knows anything, that ticket will be thrown out.
the reason is that the ticket must be administered in one of the two following ways:
1. directly handed to the vehicle driver(so for example, handing it to the passenger would make it void).
2. affixed to the windshield of the vehicle.
presto. |
I'm not saying you're lying but I want to see where all of these rules are that TPS has to follow...
They must have some written procedures that we should have the right to see...
Anybody??? |

simply not true.
until the MOMENT you are convicted in a court of law, no tickets are applied to any kind of record. you are innocent until proven guilty and the city's register reflects this fact. |

you sir, have NO idea what you are talking about, or any idea of how law works.
unless you have been CONVICTED, there is nothing on any record. |
