how ing comical, vegas has an apparent monopoly on people who go to a club for the purpose of having fun! you were in sf listening to TRANCE in a BIG ROOM CLUB, what were you expecting? nobody walks into that environment to socialize, not even in ibiza. there are dozens of weeklies and monthlies in sf with much better electronic music where people are facing each other and not the dj. broaden your horizons and you might develop a clearer picture of what the scene is like in other cities. |
Actually, it wasnt even that. the 1015 crowd usually isnt all that lively - unless its a top 20 or so dj. So people just kind of stood around and faced the stage. Not many recognized tracks, not many danced. It was just a bar gathering or people standing upfront. it wasnt the best vibe. i think the as you said it, intelligent level, in san fran it actually might be the under 21 crowd. Miami and LA and NY have a much more intelligent music crowd. Vegas might not have the music crowd, but the overall lets go clubbing to have fun crowd - which makes it a great place for those who do know the djs and want a great time. Im just saying from experience, if a dj is playing in LA or in SF, and you want to bring someone who knows the dj and wants the vibe, LA would be the pick. Maybe with some mainroom club renovation besides just hanging a few things here and there - i dunno. But the mainroom vibe is lacking. maybe with some updating the people who go to see the dj might enjoy themselves overall more and the place will get a better vibe. Just my opinion on it. So when a dj says vegas is possibly the new capital in the US, it has the clubs, the vibe and the people for it. Music sophistication might not be there compared to others, but for a dj, it has to be a fun time there. |

It depends what you look for.
Jaded over analytical people like R|CH might prefer the local nights with a very speficic sound.
A good portion of people just like to go out and have fun no matter what the club is. No matter what kind of music is playing.
Vegas is perfect for that atmosphere. Tons of fun clubs to enjoy that atmosphere for a couple of nights and let loose. Some need the big name to draw them in and i think vegas is doing a fantasic job at it than they every have before.
Yes, it is a very over the top kind of scene. Is it the best in north america? Hell no. But vegas is cool because it kind of ignores the your genre vs my genre kind of bull attitude.
and R|ch i will call you out on that IBIZA statement. Me and my boys met at least 30 awesome people at privledge with tiesto's night. The atmosphere out there is COMPLETELY different no matter what club you go to, big trance room like amnensia or priviledge.
So stop the broad generalizations that you just threw out to element, because you are doing the same . |

You should probably go to a few more parties in SF. Judging the scene based on one night with a relatively lesser-known trance dj is pretty silly. |

yes perfect for letting loose in your mandatory dress shoes and collared shirt! LOL
you went to tiesto at priviledge, which is the biggest waste of time in ibiza. i don't feel as if it's necessary to address any more of your opinions because of that. |

Don't think it's about jaded analytical types who prefer smaller venues - there's just more and more of us who give a about music and a decent club, not just getting drunk and going out to top 40 dross. It has it's place and time, definitely, but that doesn't make it anything other than that.
Tryst for instance, as a club, it was stunning, but I left after left than 10 minutes becuase there is truly nothing worse to me than a bunch of collared D-bags and botoxed trashslags all white-crunking to guns and roses mixed in to a lady gaga "house" mix.
It's different things for different people of course, but vagas clubbing is just so dated, and really caters on the whole, to people who just want to "go out" and/or get ed.
Rain, while I actually had a good time, and am not in to trance as such, felt like being in a european club in 1996 (and not in a good way)......Cheesey fluffy booted dancers, pyrotechnics and those spider twats walking about on stilts. |

Thats the point i am was going at. For lesser known djs, id rather go to a different city than SF for it. I have been to the larger shows at 1015 and what not and they are much much better than the MIKE show (that was just an example). But for the djs who dont cut the top 20 list or so, id say stick to the other cities for a vibe.
With Ibiza, it always has an atmosphere - even on empty nights. Which is why I like Vegas. The clubs actually strive to already build the atmosphere even before people are inside. Its the gimmicks like the pyro, the dancers, the acrobatics, etc. that get people even more into the show (for the most part - not all people but majority). So like Ibiza, Vegas is a place that has a vibe in the club already and with someone who knows the dj, going to those clubs you get twice the enjoyment - unless its overboard and the dancers and what not distract you.
But when you dont have that, and not a top 20 dj, i wouldn't recommend san fran. Id recommend another city given the same comparison of not having the vibe or the dj, but overall turnout is more "sophisticated" or what not rich than sf. SF has the under 21 going for it which not many cities have - but for some reason, the over 21 dont do clubnights that often. And yea, i have been to general club nights. Maybe its club decor, promo, location - not sure. But 1015 main room for example could use some help big time to boost up people to motivate them to go to see a dj there rather than LA for example. |

| Your argument is flawed by referring to MIKE as a "lesser known" dj, people just don't like him. And to think that San Francisco's crowds only cater to the top 20 DJs is just flat out wrong. They have parties with the same DJs we get here in LA on a different day/week and they do just fine. |

Possibly - i just picked up from the post above saying he is a lesser known dj. Not trying to go with opinions on dj in this just opinion overall on how 1015 vibe/sf vibe could be better in comparison.
Example is memorial day weekend - cant name a single person who did not have fun then. Sure you get some of the djs grouped in San Fran like that or LA, etc. , but in vegas it was amazing cause the vibe was already a blast. i just enjoy shows more when it looks like everyone else is having a great time. Just adds to the overall vibe. If i could, i would do the drive or fly for djs to see them in vegas at Rain. Lots of people having a blast + great dj/djs = preferred!

They do ok but they dont fill up as much and id say people in LA know the djs more so than they do in SF - or atleast react more to the djs there. |

I'm always an advocate of the belief that a party is only as good as the people you surround yourself with. If you enjoyed being around the people/vibe in Vegas, then kudos, you're a very tolerable person.

This is just flat wrong, you're going to the wrong clubs :p |

For me, it's as long as I am with good people and their are not playing hip hop, thats good enough.
We have done some really good shows out here over the years especially at ICE.
(not sure if anyone remembers the night when Tiesto and Deep Dish played in the same night but that night will go down in history as probably one of the best club nights America has ever had)
I agree that there are alot of douche bags in Las Vegas, but the reality is that comes with any city.
I say thank god for the casino believing in our passion to give us the money to put on shows like we do even if the place sometimes gets soiled with people that rub us the wrong way.
Stop looking at the glass half empty. |

gimmicks are used to distract people from ty music. the tier the music, the bigger the production needed around it. good music doesn't require a circus act to entertain.
vegas is nothing like ibiza, please stop drawing all comparisons. vegas is a toilet of exploitation built for unimaginative conventioneers, middle-aged empty-nesters, newly 21s and cable-tv types who've bought into the postcard hype of the town--wasting their time, money and vacation days roaming around in the middle of a desert from artificial environment to artificial environment trying to escape the fact of their mundane existence by holding on tightly to that glimmer of hope for the big winner or that chance encounter with the whore of your dreams, knowing all they'll ever really take home are 'crazy stories of the homies trying as hard as they can to be crazy'. that is all vegas is and will ever be. |
