Well yea that's a given. Sadly the majority of us do unpaid overtime :(

we would get along well i am sure fledz. I don't work in pharma, but i am a sales manager at a company that is similar. ;) (talking about structure and similar positions. Sales is sales and pharma is straight forward) I don't think i work that hard but i do at least 50 a week.

Ah cool. How big is your team and do you have regular face to face contact with them?

I'm in a pretty sweet position actually, not only because I got into the industry straight from uni and because I always show initiative and try and improve working conditions for everyone, but because I'm currently promoting what will soon be the worlds most prescribed medication that couldn't drop in sales if you tried to kill it. A growth rate of 106% is awesome for my resume :D

i am in charge of 67 employees. It is scary, i know...but i do well because of my big mouth. Advertising is one of the only things more profitable than pharma:p

Hence why I want to move into the marketing division of big pharma :gsmile:

put in the hours and it is yours. I have a bachelors in nothing related, but my mouth got me here:) Sales is sales...you don't need to be a doctor to sell ice to eskimos:)

Yea for sure, I can easily get them to put me back into uni for post grad marketing if needed, which is most likely what I'll do.

education is not needed for sales...you can not teach drive, nor can you teach the art of wanting to make big bucks. :) If it is free sure, but if you have to pay it back say no and go balls to the wall;)

Working smart, not hard. I like the sound of that.

no I'm not paying it back! Marketing is a bit less sales focused though so it's good to have some education backing. Can't hurt my future prospects either if I have another degree.

That is one of the slimiest jobs I could imagine having.

don't you dare get another degree past your bachelor's unless it's necessary or versatile. i'm all about school but even i have to admit getting a masters was not one of my brighter ideas. if you are in sales and want to continue in sales 100% don't get a degree past your college degree unless you want to do it for fun. i agree with jay, it won't help you get ahead. as for marketing, i work in marketing and i have more education than my boss his boss and his boss above that. they are still good at their jobs though. get in learn how to do it and move up. honestly it makes me slightly bitter that i went to better schools and have a higher degree than most of the people throughout my company. with that said i'm anti going to pursue anything past a bachelors unless it is needed...like if you ever want to be a VP.

although i think everyone should have a bachelors degree.

I'll decide when the time is right. If I need it I'll get it, if I don't I won't. I certainly won't be paying for it though.

Plus I don't particularly enjoy full on sales. I'd rather be in management and/or working more business focused.

DJ Damerchi - Why :conf:

Im not anti BigPharmaceuticals(they helped AIDS patients greatly for ex.), but I think being in the business of perpetuating the over medication for minor ailments in the west is not the most noble of professions. It will be your responsibility to exploit people's deepest insecurities and make them feel they need chemical intervention even if it's not the best option. Perhaps the future will bring reform so BigPharma cannot be so shameless with advertising their newest blockbusters, but only time will tell.

I'm at a crossroads in my life since everyone around me is willing to passionately sell and market crap that they personally believe has no utility, just for more $$$. If you question the morality of what they're doing, they counter with "Hey, I'm just being a good capitalist". Since it(capitalism) is the worst system except for all the others, I remain stumped regarding their whoring of products they would never use personally. I remember some kids that got into the Primerica Insurance scheme and actually made good money by aggressively shoving shoddy policies down numerous throats in order to rise up the Pyramid.

good luck though, I understand BigPharma is very complex, and I was only referring to marketing the blockbusters where the side effects are far worse than the condition itself. The wings of Pharma aimed at lobbying the medical community by using empirical evidence for life saving drugs that are not advertised in between infomercials are a whole different ballgame.

Anyways, enjoy the climb, we got a TA on the inside of Big Pharma now:p !
