Which genre do you think is the most creative at the moment? The one that has the most artists putting out truly 'fresh' or innovative sounding records?

Disco house.
There's a ton of variation in the tracks being released allowing for many different vibes.
Not sure if you'd consider it "new" sounding though as most of it uses 70s/80s sounding stuff, but in new ways.

I haven't heard anything very "innovative" in years. It's all slight expansion of pre-existing sounds, re-combination of existing genres, or both. There are plenty of nice sounds and tracks being made still, but basically nothing that strikes me as unprecedented or strikingly different from everything I've heard before.

Aggrotech & Trance, without a freaking doubt in electronic music. Otherwise, heavy metal \m/

Sadly, I have to agree with JBJ on this one. Innovation is basically unfindable in electronic music these days, let alone dance music. Creativity, on the other hand, is not that uncommon and can still be found with artists who are willing to stretch the boundaries of certain genre(s) and use existing sounds and techniques in a new, creative way.
When it comes to such artists, first name that pops up for me is Carsten Nicolai (Alva Noto). He has always had somewhat unique approach to music, but what truly made him a genius in my book is the way he redefined minimalistic music in his collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, ambient with his own ongoing Xerrox series where he buried sad and emotional drones deep under layers of white noise and electrostatic buzzes, and IDM with his last year's album Unitxt, which saw him using his trademark short bleeps, noises and other high frequency signals, but this time packed with mathematically precise sharp beats into a brilliantly constructed rhythmical collage. It's probably the most artificial album I've ever heard (even Autechre doesn't come close to this kind of artificialness). The Flashbulb is another one of those creative guys whose recordings, beside frentic programming, also encompass a large number of live instruments such as bass guitar, cello, violin and other mostly string instruments to create something more organic and mature than other breakcore recordings.
Basically what I try to say is if you want creative and fresh music you'll have to look outside of specific genres to these genreless and genre-blending records.
Unfortunately, the term "creative" is used in a very subjective manner around here, so this thread is in a great risk of becoming another "What's your favourite genre atm?!" thread with silly suggestions such as disco house or aggrotech (is this the stupidest name for a genre or what?).

This is like a sad idea of some movie writer in the 70's of music in the 2000's.

Definitely Dubstep, IMHO. The concept of the sound itself strikes me as innovative, fresh and exciting. I certainly enjoy having it around at the time.

You guys definitly need to check out some of the subgenres of heavy metal. Totally missing out seriously. TOTALLY.

While I would probably agree that dubstep is probably the genre where I'm most often hearing creativity, there's also a monstrous plague of incredibly ty, uncreative dubstep out there.
I'd argue that this question is empirically unanswerable, as nobody can pay close attention to every genre. Either you're a dilettante who has a skin-deep knowledge of what's going on everywhere, or you have a deep knowledge of one or two areas. Nobody has the money or the time to avoid this, and neither position can accurately comment.

it all comes down to producers putting a fresh spin on things and creating an impact.
at the moment thoe for me at least progressive trance/psy is still interesting to hear. mainly because of the varying elements used to make the tracks.
you can also say how far are you willing to dig to find these new creative artist/producers ect. as many seem to be happy with whats now rater then new.

Absolutely the truth. The last album that I felt was totally unique was This Binary Universe, everything else is as you say creative, but not innovative and the most creative are the genre-less and genre blending.
Definitely could say Terra Nine did that on 'Streamofconsciousness' when theyd released it in June. You have breaks, downtempo, dub, d&b a little hint of idm all interlaced with psychedelic ambient.
