As shown in the link, 1990 had some of the lowest top marginal rates in recent history, so to use that as the baseline is ignorant at best. |

i would love to see some stats where the rich stop investing and say, "ok i don't want to pay anymore taxes to make my country better, so i'm going to spurn the economy and not try to make myself wealthier".

I'm not really worried about what happened in 1924. I'm more concerned with the trends over the past 30 years and what's happening NOW.... which is, reliance on the top earners to pay a larger and larger share while a growing percentage of the population pays NOTHING. Is that what you consider fair?

Past 30 years, you say? Whoops! Looks like in 1979, 30 years ago, the top marginal income tax rate was 70%, positively punitive by today's standards, and stayed at 50% or above all the way until 1986. I might be rusty on my history, but did the American economy sputter and die then? I don't think so.
Me oh my, the top tax rate might jump up to 60%, 10% lower than it was all through the 1960s and '70s. Disaster on the horizon!

yeah the guy who has been in office for less than a year ruined everything bush accomplished.
