I was talking with some friends and we came up with the following two ideas for Circus. Let me know what you all think.

I've noticed that the crowd often becomes more energetic when they hear a famous song they recognize. With that in mind...

(1) Top 10 DJ Night:
All DJs at Circus will play songs created by those trance DJ/producers currently among the top 10 DJs in the world (according to the DJ Mag Top 100 poll). Circus DJs will play songs by Armin, Tiesto, Pvd, Ferry Corsten, etc... that were created during any part of their careers. For example, "Out of the Blue" (1999) and "We Belong" (2008) by Ferry Corsten are OK.

(2) Retro Trance Night:
All DJs at Circus will play trance songs that were created before 2005 (or some other arbitrary year).

These ideas could be implemented in a single room or the entire club.

Did you get this idea from hearing the set andr3x and I did this last Saturday @ Circus? We already do this in our sets (mixing classics & remixed classics with the latest tracks) and have our own monthly called "Retro Sundays" down in OC at Flight where we play all the old trance classics (originals and remixed versions).

I love this idea! :D We might be able to plan something like this for the locals holiday event we're planning for 12/26.

Completely independent. I didn't go to Circus this past weekend.

What date is the next "Retro Sunday"? I live pretty close to that club.

I'd actually consider driving to OC for trance classics! :tongue2

If they do this, I'd prefer it be in the back or side room. The headlining DJ in the main room should be given the freedom to create and spin their own set without having a set of rules or guidelines on what must be played. Otherwise, doing this could stifle creativity, responsiveness to the crowd (can't play that next track that would totally go off based on reaction to last song because it's not in the top 10...), turn away customers who want to hear new music, turn away DJ's from the club, etc. It's a free country after all! :D

But, if done in one of the smaller rooms with a DJ completely on board and totally into the concept, then I'm all for it.

Ahhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhh..... :D

I will find out when the next one is and let you and apeattack know. We had to take October off because of all the Halloween festivities and other gigs we had. I'll let you know. I should find out later today sometime.

The next "Retro Sundays" is tentatively scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend.
