probably the biggest downside to the mystery concept... |

I'm going to be there but it will have to be a last minute decision. I don't think my old body will hold up to Stereo Saturday, B&B and Howells Sunday and then that party... |

I was in the U.S. during the re-opening weekend but Graham's review made me want to check this place out, now, more than ever...
Since I had never been to Stereo, I didn't have anything to compare it to besides all the amazing reviews looming around from parties of previous years. I found out on Saturday afternoon that Martinez Bros. were going to be there, and, since I missed them at Cobra a few months ago, the news came as a pleasant surprise.
We arrived at the club at 3am and walked right in. The entrance looked pretty grimy but if I hadn't known there had been a fire recently, I never would've guessed. The first thing I noticed as I walked upstairs was the sea of topless men on the dancefloor. Normally, the crowd at a club is something I dont pay too much attention to, however in this case it was unavoidable. Despite having been warned of the demographics, we were still bewildered by the ratio of guys to girls, which was close to something like 50:1. After quickly getting over the abundance of testosterone in the room, we turned our attention to the music. We caught the end of Jo Jo Flores and were blown away by the pumping animalistic sound the Martinez Bros. were dishing out. To add to the vibe in the room, there were half a dozen male dancers dressed like cast members of the cats musical...random but cool. Overall the ambiance of the club was amazing. I was loving the fact that everyone was dancing and the emphasis was on the music and not the lights/lasers/visual effects. We spent a large portion of the night on the dance floor but later moved to the back which was elevated and gave us a better view of the club and dj booth which seemed even higher up than I anticipated. Overall, this club met my expectations and it's a place I'm sure I'll revisit soon. |
Glad you had a good time. Martinez Bros. & JoJo Flores is definitely a winning line-up. |

| I think not knowing the line up is a serious downside. I guess it's good for those that live in Montreal. Oh well. I guess it's the French way. all the foreigners trying to come to your city and spend money. Too cool for us outsiders. I really think that kind of attitude spoils the whole fun. |

Its not a Montreal thing....its the way things were back in the old days....they are just trying to bring back the rave feel. I like the idea. For the most part, people who go to Stereo already know the type of music that wil be played so does it really matter who is spinning it? |

You know, at first I thought this was a pretty terrible idea but now I'm starting to come around to it.
It's a way to get people to leave all of their pre-conceived notions and super high expectations of things at the door.
It's set up so that you get as "real" an experience as possible at a party.
I can see this opening a lot of people's eyes to things that they might not have previously been interested in.
and ps. It's effing Stereo...you know whatever/whoever they bring in is so going to be top notch....quality is kind of their.....forte. |

+1! If a club was doing something like this in Toronto I wouldn't mind as much b/c its not a hassle to get there. But for us to go to Montreal, it involves a weekend and funding...something that I can't just do on any given weekend b/c I feel like partying at Stereo. It's got to be for a dj that I'd make the trek for. I'm sure the party would be awesome no matter who is spinning (for the most part) but it definitely makes a difference for me. If I spent a few hundred on a weekend like that, then got stuck with Digweed or something (no offense to those of you who like him, just my personal preference!) I would be severely disappointed.
I say bring on Vibe at Stereo! ;) |

i'm not that much of a fan of this concept, but if they revolved around making a club easier for torontonians they would open it up in toronto.

| There are not many clubs that go with a concept to attract people from other cities. Its there for the locals. If Guv went with a concept like this I would probably go to Guv more often. |

I think it's a pretty wicked idea!
You never know who you're going to see come and play BUT you know you're getting wicked music!
Dare to be different.... |
