wow
i had a blast !!!
dave seaman was definitely my highlight of the night... banging set !!! he definitely got me dancing at max power. he totally took over my soul. wicked hard set. enjoyed it VERY much. Thanks to all the people i had the joy to dance with during his set... closest thing to what aria used to be for me.
sasha & digweed were good, quality like no other, but below my expectations... yes the bar was really high.
franco fabi & stefane lippé ripped it.
crowd was fantastic.
can't wait 'til next year :) |

Ummm HOLY !!! Sasha Digweed gave me a big WOW... I came in with lower expectations cause of the set I listened from them before didn't appeal to me...
Is it me or is prog making a comeback??? in my mind?? Easily one of the best parties in years..
This one goes in the books for me for sure...
Proper review when I get some sleep |

| No line up, Great decor, Great Crowed, AMAZZING music( aspecialy DIGWEED) sasha was too stoned out I guess. One of the best events if not best event for me :). I can't believe that I came out of the same building after bal en blanc depressed and pissed and today with the biggest smile ever :) |

I can't say the decor was something to brag about. There was only 1 giant screen but I think the room could have used 2. The DJ booth wasn't properly centered. And considering the theme was Lite Switch, if you were expecting lots of lighting, there wasn't. There were hundreds of single light bulbs in rows but they were barely used in the beginning.
However, the redeeming qualities of this year's Black & Blue were the friendly crowd, fast access and the amazing music. I personally believe that Sasha & Digweed delivered the goods and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, Dave Seaman killed it. I thought that the energy would come down with Stephane Lippé, but I was wrong. He managed to keep up with the previous DJs. As to Franco Fabi, although his track selection and technique were very good, his programming lacked a bit. He was playing dark, afterhour tracks early and then switched to lighter house later. The only thing that made sense was when he switched to progressive in the last hour of his set.
It's already been announced that next year's Black & Blue will be at the Stade and will be 20 hours long instead of 15 (La Presse). I'll definetely be there. |

This was my first Black and Blue!
I arrived in at 2am (sorry for being late), I didn't experience any wait at the line / coat checks.
I'll try to give a fair review and have Bal en Blanc as a benchmark.
1) Size, twice smaller than a Bal en Blanc, organizers are talking about 7000 people, it's probable, I would say there was a bit less.
2) Decor, none whatsoever, except the "mirrors" at the corner that deformed your image and made chicks look fat lol :p
3) Lighting, MNML but kept the underground feel of the party, there was abosolutely no focus whatsoever on the djs lighting wise, they were not the stars of the night! That felt weird. I felt that the lighting was lacking, it was original but it was just not enough.
4) Saw from far the dance/diva show, and they seemed like being the focus of the night, i'm really not into that, but I understand that there's a crowd for that. It felt weird that an empty stage was the focus of the night when we had top 10 djs in the room.
5) Nice touch in the vip area, with yogurts, pretzels and fruits, these are welcome after a long night of sheningans.
6) alcool bar closed at 2:30 WTF?!?
7) Awesome crowd, never felt like a full blown gay party that some TAs were affraid off. I can't compare with previous years tho.
8) Sound system was excellent for a large party, clear and loud (a bit too loud?). Maybe Bal en Blanc could take a hint from that setup.
Digweed played about 3h, Sasha roughly 1h, Digweed killed the dancefloor with banging tune after tune!! Loved it!!! He could've played the whole night and I would be happy!
Sasha was Sasha, he's my favorite, but he didn't play long enough sadly, nothing mindblowing except hearing that ladytron track on the dancefloor!!
Seaman first half hour was amazing, that "arabic" beat track was crazy i nthe first 15 mins, too bad my brain shut down at about 7:30 am... ugh, I love Seamans sets but my sobre body couldn't handle it.
Music = 10/10 for a large event
Heard the organizer being interviewed on tv, and she was saying reluctantly that they diluted their formula by bringing more mainstram djs to attract a hetero crowd and compensate for the non-exsitant US tourists this year and I asked myself:
What's the goal of a fundraiser??? Raise the most funds right?? You would think that by going more mainstream they would bring more people in and money right?? But it seems that's not how Black Blue people think or want... anyways, hearing that was not cool. |

opening to sasha & digweed + dave seaman + black & blue fans, going to a kate ryan performance (ella elle l'a) and preparing the grounds for digweed.
this explains ;) |

maybe i'm tired, but i don't get your point ?
they brought more mainstream djs with the goal of bringing more people...
philippe the bbcm promoter didn't have the total figures, but he thinks they had more people than last year. He was really pleased with the crowd they got this year... way more diversified.
they intend to keep it this way for next year. hopefully, last night's feed back will bring even more people to stadium. |

I heard from an extremely reliable source that turnout was at 3700-4000.
15 minutes before Sasha and John's set finished...about 300 people left, at least.
U could see the back of the floor emptying...
If these figures are correct, then organizers lost some serious coin considering S&D do not play for less than 25K on a Sunday night...
Proper review later...much later...must study for exam 2moro morning. |

| If I can find the clip I will post it here, it's a lady that was interviewed and the perception I got is that they are diluting their formula and getting djs to attract heteros because the gay crowd from the US will not be there. It was the tone she used that threw me off. |
