A body builder being an insecure dumb ass who worries about his reputation? Who would of ever thought that's possible.

i don't mind him. I think he is just as guilty as others for hating but he shows it in a more passive way. I think he is a little delusional regarding his aptitude in music and some of his comments are a little frustrating considering his level of competence with music. But at least he tries to have a discussion and I respect that. He wants to learn and you can't blame someone for not being a professional.

And there is nothing wrong with lifting weights. I drink protein shakes and go to the gym 5 days a week. I don't think you have to be a meat head to have a healthy lifestyle.

fyi, protein shakes are not healthy. seriously, stop wasting your money on them. whey is a waste material that supplement companies filter and sell for a high profit. the reality is that all protein protein powders (other than casein) are far too quickly digested. the quick absorption means that very little of it is actually used to repair muscle damage, even if you take it after weights. this results in pressure on your renal system and unhealthily high blood-urea levels.

the entire supplement industry is driven by nonsensical pseudo-scientific claims. you do NOT need 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight. this is just propaganda spread by supplement companies to increase sales. you will find no scientific support for this. the most comprehensive study on protein requirements of athletes, that i know of, found that much more than ~1g of protein per kg of body weight (roughly half the typical bodybuilder recommendation) resulted in high blood urea levels. this indicates the protein isn't actually getting used. these athletes were training all day every day, so your typical amateur bodybuilder would require even less.

long story short: don't get sucked in to the hype. supplements are a waste of money. even multivitamins don't get asborbed, because your body can only absorb vitamins in small traces, not a few hundred mg at a time. if you're determined to stick with them, only take ~10g protein at a time and split your vitamins into quarters. also, don't read bodybuilding forums, they are full of brainwashed morons lol.

I don't really consider myself a bodybuilder. IT is exercise that helps me relax. My girlfriend is a vegetarian so I don't get to eat meat often and I enjoy my protein shake. I think you are describing individuals that take things too far to look good. That isn't me.

...the ? Where the hell did you read to take 1g of protein per 1 pound :wtf:
That's moronic.

Supplements aren't rubbish. Yes, people do over-do them and hence put strain on their kidneys but it's ridiculous to say they are a waste of money for people that use them properly.

How is it up there on your skyscraper sized horse? Let me go get you a pony.

it's probably the most common myth spread around the bodybuilding community. some people advocate upwards of 2g.

quote:
The general rule, in terms of protein intake for size gains has, for some time, been one-gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Certainly, the recommended daily allowance (RDA), for the general population, of 0.8 grams per kilogram of bodyweight is way off the mark for bodybuilders and other strength athletes.

A nitrogen balance study of bodybuilders demonstrated an increased protein need relative to controls and estimated the RDA for bodybuilders to be 1.7 g/kg total.

In another study, impressive strength gains of 5% and size of 6% were seen over several months of strength training in world-class weight lifters when they increased their dietary protein from 1.8 to 3.5 g/kg of body weight per day.

anything more than about 10g of whey (that is 1/3 to 1/4 a normal shake scoop) will not get used. in general, all supplements (protein, aminos, vitamins, etc.) should be taken at a fraction of the recommended dose, but at higher frequency. most pro bodybuilders (coleman, etc.) have one shake pwo and that's all. real food is far superior.

think about it... there is a fraction of a gram of creatine in a steak. when you take 3g of creatine in pure form, your body is just going to go "wtf is this lol! out the piss pipe for you". this applies to almost every supplement in existence.
