crusty teeth make me livid, i can't imagine having to deal with people that have no sense of personal hygiene everyday.

seeing as how the cosmetic dentistry industry has skyrocketed, i'd say that statistic is outdated and holds very little merit nowadays:)

Cosmetic is nice and it's the artistic part of dentistry , you feel very good because you can actually see your work and the patient leaving the dental office smiling happy, but its also the most challenging and stressing .

Specially when sometimes you might get a nutcase patient that comes back because she noticed that when she has her pic taken the flash of the camera reflects the light on one 3rd of that tooth in a funny way , lol yeah people that are hardcore about aesthetics can drive you crazy

I remember going to an administration seminar a while back and this Plastic surgeon was tellign us that one of the reasons why he charged so much was because after the surgery he had to deal with some patients that are so difficult to please and that he had to do like 4 sessions of a little brainwash to convince them that they looked good.

yeah i can name a handfull of other nasty jobs , the bacteria of the mouth is the same or worse as the bacteria of the ass thats why "atm" makes so much sense :gsmile: :p

but its true what you say, people that are way obsessed with the outside ( face , hair , nails etc ) and no care about the inside ( mouth, vag , penis ) have a lot of issues personality wise.
Schadenfreude
i disagree...if you look like you are nasty and don't brush your teeth i think the issue is with the person who lets themselves go and not with those who laugh at them.

how hard is it to brush 3 times a day after meals for 2 minutes?
djhaziel
in part what you say is true " let themselves go "

but it just never ceases to amaze me people that are so much into spending loads of money on the gym , expensive attire ,make up , facial surgery etc and have a very poor oral hygiene . to me it seems like these people are just concerned of what you or everyone else can see , more than what is going inside themselves .
Schadenfreude
i kinda lol at people that get veneers and look like guy smiley.

to an extent image is very important, especially in certain fields where you deal with people. Our parents always said it is what inside that counts, but in reality we all will be judged with first impressions on appearance.

This can be overcome in the long run through delivery of good work, but it is simply human nature that makes it this way.

It is nice to say that beauty is only skin deep, that being said, would you go hit on a fat chick at a bar?;)

If she came with a bucket of crisco, maybe.

if these certain type of people are so concerned about how others perceive them, then why wouldn't they add improving their oral hygeine to the list..makes no sense(i'm assuming you're talking about getting braces)

Having bad breath can ruin your image or a conversation with a hot chick ;)

Image is very important I was being a bit extremist on telling an example that i do see everyonce in a while.

The art on making veneers is to make them look as natural as possible on a patient , if you notice that a person has veneers then they are not well done .

I love fat chicks :p
