This is also because B&B is a known gay event, and most straight people probably did not want to attend.

bull, that "serious crowd" doesn't really care about gayness, it's all about the music... right? ;)

right, thats why i was front and center!

well you can never fill any massive with a 'serious crowd', the underground crowd, its just to small. there has to be an inclusion of the 'normal' crowd as well.

who knows, maybe trance is making a come back :p

Its so funny how Ottawa is literally years behind in the EDM scene. I remember 03-04 going to see Tiesto i went with 3-4 people and saw nobody from Ottawa, now you go to any trance event and its a Ottawa reunion...

LOL :haha: :haha:

Agreed I am starting to constantly run into people from Ottawa I know, beyond just my normal group from mostly Ottawa that I loiter with.

well, you know you're at a crappy event if you run into Annie :p

proof: Black and Blue, stellar "serious crowd" lineup and attendance was really bad.

Can you really blame the promoter?

Black and Blue had 16K in 2005 but then a huge drop off afterwards, with attendance typically around 5-10K. I wonder what the reason is? US economy? Bookings? Less gov't funding? More competition? Re the latter, I know 2006 had a big drop off due to some US-based gay event or something. Not to mention Danny Tenaglia carries far more serious clout than Antoine Clamaran :p

It's the best massive around, but it may be too gay and/or not trancey or mainstream fluffy enough for some folks.

black and blue said they noticed a drop of attendance due to the economy more than anything

The scene is ALOT smaller now. Its not the promoters fault..more newbs in the scene then ever...gay events or not. Thats why bookings are what they are!! Its rocket science.

Maybe give it a couple of more years...see if the newbs wanna broaden their tastes outside the sounds of David Fetta...music comes in circles, i think the good bookings come back in time as well.

It seems like the BeB business model is to cast as big a net as possible and book djs that will cater to everyone, and do it with djs they have established said relationship with previously, mostly. They are going the safe route booking Armin, Tiesto and Guetta ad nauseum so they do not end up belly-up like 514. No rocket science there :p

I think most of us can agree that the business model sucks from a music standpoint but makes sense business-wise, especially on an audience that is hungry for a big party with lazers, biscuits, and some sort of electronic music. How long this model can sustain itself before people yearn for something more is anyone's guess.

Personally, I think the electronic music 'scene' is getting bigger, for better and for worse.

Schadenfreude
guys...this is the year of our lord 2009...yet we are still saying the same things from 2004.

EVERYTHING has changed from the music to the patrons. The only constants are the "gateway" DJs and music. As malek already pointed out, creating new fans of music is a great thing for the local scene, as if even 5% get fed up of the spoon fed supersaws and start to dig a little deeper, the whole city and the promoters behind the events that you guys like will win in the long run.

Let it go guys, you guys are just rehashing and recycling the same comments that get made every year, yet nothing ever changes. Take a hint.:p

i have an idea...
RayRayy
its a broken record.
