"heroin disco for the nu-beat generation"- it's the basic ideology behind my productions and mixes. spacey, laid-back, dopey, pleasurable, surreal. those of us who live for this style of house are living in the midst of a re-emergence of the beat generation; the nu-beat generation. the similarities between the beat generation's "beaten-down" bohemians and today's techy-disco hipsters are remarkable. By embracing our music we reject the typical American mainstream, we embrace our sexuality and amorality, we're hedonistic and self-destructive.. yet we thrive creatively due to the advent of new technology, new ideas.. we reject our current commonplace conventions in favor of complete non-conformity in regards to the cliché characteristics of contemporary compositions. and also, drugs. this is my philosophy, my belief, my manifesto, if you will. and many of you are living this lifestyle and applying these principles without even realizing it.
mixed on 3 decks- i edited a lot of tracks beforehand in ableton though.
tracklisting: 1. The Police - Voices Inside My Head (acapella) 2. Steve Bug, Gigi - Like It Should Be 3. The Discowboys - At Midnight (steve bug's always late mix) 4a. Ilija Rudman - Definition .... 4b. The Police - Voices Inside My Head (acapella) 5. Elegia - To Become (playone vocal mix) 6a. OOFT! - This Sound .... 6b. Luna City Express - Rough Neck (matthias tanzmann remix) 7a. Atmosfear - Dancing In Outer Space (the revenge rework 1) .... 7b. Ben Westbeech - So Good Today (yoruba soul remix) 8a. JC Freaks - Dub Praise (the revenge remix) .... 8b. Oxia - Whole Life (original mix) 9a. Lovebirds - Sarice .... 9b. Oxia - Whole Life (stereotypy vocal tool edit) 10. I:Cube - Supernovac (live at the lanchonete version) 11. Junior Boys - Hazel (ewan pearson's extended disco edit)
I finally finished this mix almost 2 years after my previous attempt. this one is mixed in a similar fashion (but not nearly as complex)- 3 decks with a lot of tracks used as tools or acapellas instead of playing them in their entirety. The Revenge was a big influence for this mix- i used three of his tracks, and used the acapella for "voices inside my head" by the police much like he does.
comments, suggestions, or constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.
edit: and yeah, the beginning is a bit slow at first, but give it a chance- i go kinda nuts in the middle of the set (as you can see from the tracklist) so hopefully you guys will dig that.

your grandmother has good taste in music then :P
it's funny you mention that though, because in my original iteration, i was having a lot of problems finding a track that went well with "dub praise" and i originally didn't have the oxia track in there (literally due to the fact that it's been hammered out so much). but, i figured since i'm using it as a tool to bridge two tracks instead of playing it by itself i could get away with it :p
and in the end, good music is good music, what can i say.
