Macbook or Macbook pro??

Hey I'm looking into a new laptop since my comp is ed and at the moment I have a setup which does not permit me to play digital, but in the future I'd like to convert it to fully digital, so I want to make sure this new Mac I'll be getting is fit for the task of running Traktor.

So I was looking at the 13 inch models and the only difference between the entry level models seems to be that the pro is made of aluminum or something so it has a sturdier build and the macbook does not have firewire ports... So do I really need to be running a Macbook Pro or should the Macbook be everything I need? Also I'm pretty newb with computers (and traktor) so if there's lots of stuff I'm missing here, enlighten me please :)

If you are only gonna use it to run Traktor, a Macbook will do just fine. However if you can afford a MBP, go for it! You won't regret it

I dunno... the advantages of a pro just don't seem that significant? Am I wrong??

If you're talkin the 13 inchers, no you're exactly right. The jump between the white macbook and the 13 in pro is not significant (other than the reasons described above.)

Now if you're talkin a macbook or 13 in pro vs a 15 in pro, there's a huge difference in performance.

The Pro has separate audio input and output ports and the regular Macbook uses one port for audio in/out. I don't know if that matters or not but it is a difference.

On Black Friday Apple reduced price of MacBook Pros by about $100. But they didn't reduce the MacBook. They'll probably have the same deal on Boxing Day (on apple.com & their other national sites).

If you wanna spend less and get aprox same performance, check the Mac Mini if you don't need notebook mobility. I researched it and it's faster and has better graphics than most people expect. I was gonna get one but Apple didn't put it on sale on BF, the iMac was a better deal with a $100 reduction. But I won't buy an iMac until they have BlueRay cuz those LED screens would be excellent for HD movies.

If you're gonna get one of the less expensive Macs, might as well wait until mid January and pay full price as that's when they usually update the iLife software package (iPhoto, iMovie etc) and the update is worth about $80.

How so? The cheapest 15" is pretty much exactly the same as the more expensive 13". Only thing better on it, is the bigger resolution it has (and the possibility to get a matte screen). Other than that, it's bigger and costs 200€ more. I'd get the 13" over the 15" even if someone paid for it.

I read a review of the White Macbook, and they said the plastic scratches extremely easily.

Personally I'd go with the MBP, purely for the aluminium body. The white one looks like a pile of e. Excuse my french.

Another question for you guys though.

Does the macbook feature the same multi touch keypad that the MBP's have?

Having bought a mac, the one thing i would never want to live without is the trackpad. It is (IMO) hands down the most impressive trackpad i've ever used. It's sleek, it's a pleasure to touch, and the multi gestures just make life so much easier. I've never ever considered buying a mouse for my laptop as the trackpad handles everything i need it to do.

So if the multi gestures don't come as standard on the macbook, get the MBP.

Not really related, but I didn't think it warranted a whole new thread...

Anyone here own a 13" Macbook Pro (the 2.26GHz, 160GB HDD one) and use it with Traktor Pro? If so, how does it run? Does it have enough power to run it without any hiccups?

That machine is plenty powerful for Traktor Pro. Won't even come close to pegging the CPU.
