I don't know if I completely agree with him that its bugs are a deal killer. I don't know how it is on Mac but it wasn't terrible on PC. It's not like it would crash. It would just not work 100% perfectly. But I wouldn't be surprised that if you don't use the Virus|Control, it works great. They should have came out with a dedicated PCIe card for the device or at least use Firewire instead of USB 1.0. Ugh.
The most annoying thing with the TI was bouncing down to audio. It would constantly throw in little clicks or a voice would crap out. I would always bounce down the track six or so times without listening to any of them in hopes at least one wouldn't have any unwanted audio glitches from the TI.
But I'd say don't buy it because you're better off spending the $1,200 on a Waldorf Q and XT. Right there those two can do everything the virus can but sound a lot better WITHOUT bugs. Or if you want something current, get a Blofeld and a copy of Largo. There, you have the awesomeness of hardware AND a VSTi to make things a bit easier. |

| Sorry, I edited my post. I always do that because I think of something else to say after I hit submit. Heh. |

I hate programming with my mouse anyways, but id be mad if i had experienced what you have for sure. |

Yeah, if someone *really* wanted a Virus, I think I would recommend a B or Classic. The C is nice, but the interface is a bit more confusing since they just *had* to throw in a ty generic EQ. The "Moog" filter is nice, but the Virus' original filters are pretty darn good, too. |

Also, another thing I hate about the Virus is that the third OSC reduces the polyphony. Ugh, such bull. I *HATE* dynamically voiced instruments.

Look at that cluttered POS.

The Q gets even more done with less space. FX are an addon, not a necessity. THey shouldn't take up so much space on the rack. It just clutters things. The above image of the C interface is a perfect visual example of where the virus went since it came out. It became more and more cluttered and more difficult to use.
Now, look at the virus B, which is very similar to the A. The knobs are nice and spread out, easy to read, not overwhelming.

Nice big LFO section with how to change the rate, shape, and assignment all very clear and easy to understand. Plus there's no real estate wasted on the FX. The OSC section isn't too bad. Although I don't like that you have to menu dive to enable OSC 3.
I think, really, the Virus should be treated as a two-osc instrument. THe third osc really don't do much on this instrument so why bother. That's where the Virus A wins but 12 voices isn't much. Plus I don't like the knobs/buttons on the Virus A. |
