As far as other students, I am not worried much since most of my classes are one that the median age is 20+ not high schoolers. They are not really entry level, more serious classes per say.

Anyone have tips on note taking?

I take ty notes, and my hand writting is hard to understand myself, :(

Do you have a laptop?

One thing that I have found to be awesome and incredibly helpful, is writing my notes on my laptop and recording the lectures on my webcam. If for any reason I can't remember why I wrote something, or need clarification on something, I can just play the video. It's also awesome for when people need to get notes from you and you can just send them the recorded lecture. People are usually quite happy to return the favour if for some reason you couldn't make it to class.

Since I can type about 100 times faster than I can write, I can almost write down what the prof is saying word for word (although I don't usually do that). If the prof is using powerpoint, I will write "Slide 3 - something that summarizes what this slide means." I try to focus on what the key points are and summarize it in a way that I know I will understand. I always write down stats and definitions. Just try to write down the basic concepts of what is being said.

I dunno, we have a good system at my Uni. All powerpoints are posted up on a site that any registered student in that class has access to, so we have the powerpoints ourselves to review. I find that it makes everything 100% easier, and my notes are easy to refer to when I have the note labeled "slide 18" etc.

Get a digital recorder. Ask every one of your teachers if they mind you recording the lectures. This can enhance your note taking as you can review the lecture later if your notes don't fully make sense.

That's a really good alternative if you don't have a laptop.

when i take notes i just jot down anything i know i'll have trouble remembering a week from now, anything the prof says will be on the exam, and if your prof is the interactive type, anything the class has trouble explaining back to him (usually winds up on the test). for calc i would write down the rule and one example (usually just transcribe the example the prof works out on the board). for physics, i would write down terms, theories and formulas. you don't have to write out everything you need to know about the term, theory or formula as long as you go back and fill them in later. some classes i just list keywords and terms i know i'll be tested on. when i study for the final i take that list, write out the definitions and significance for all of them and do it over again later. i hate taking notes too, but it really does force your brain to process information and imprint it into long term memory better.

writing notes while looking in the book he teaches from works for me. incase the exact same thing stands in the book ill just write down where to find it instead of noting the whole . i want to start marking in the book too but im too greedy and wants to resell them.

Sticky notes are awesome for this. Just write on the note whatever you would write in the book and stick it in there. I am greedy too. LOL!

Nah, it's more like I am poor as .

I went back after 3 years of no school - best decision ever!

You can do it. I'm doing so much better than when I left (FFS I transferred over less than 10 credits.. FFFFFFFFFFF UUUUUUUUUUUUUUU MIAMI!)

But yes. I was a dumb head going to class all hungover etc.. and I had no idea what to study. Now i do :D

I am 25 in less than 2 months and whenever I tell my classmates - they freak. I can't even going out drinking with some of them

The end of winter makes 1.5 years of being in school. :D 1.5 more to go

I dropped out of college a few years back , it just wasn't for me. I was lucky enough to land a career as a CDL licensed freight operator with a major pharmacy chain and great benefits & salary. It's tough with the way the economy is to land a job/career paying over 40 thousand a year even with a bachelors degree. Going back to school is always a plus, but I wouldn't do it unless you're financially stable and have at least a job on the side that can help you pay for your everyday necessities.

lol i remember going to class once on no sleep after partying really hard the night and morning before, this was back in '03 when the killer white doves and blue dolphins were around and my yola was at its absolute purest. best idea ever. i got to campus early and was hallucinating in the library. i was reading a magazine and from my peripheral vision i thought i saw a dog run past me. i called for it to come back, realized what happened and promptly left :wtf: then halfway into class i was sitting in the front row and i kept nodding off snapping back up hella obviously. ah good times...

In prehistoric Australia all our lectures are recorded for us and put on the intranet. The software automatically links the powerpoint slides to the lecturer's voice, so you can listen at home and watch the slides tick over as if you were there.

lol i went left class to go to the bathroom in my college.

after being up all night. I don't even think i managed to stay the whole class.

All i needed was 1 hurricane and a paper i didn't do for me to stop going to school lol.

Schadenfreude
i've been doing a bunch of certification courses over the last few weeks. The first day is rough, but once you get the "study mode" rust off it is easy.

Just focus.

this too!

summer to fall is my longest break of no school and trying to get back into the "study" mode was horrendous!!!!!!!!!! I hated it.

Every other semester there is a 2 week or 1 week break.
