The PS2 can play DVD w/o having to buy a package. Although you might want to buy the DVD remote because using the controller can get quite annoying. Yes the XBox has a better DVD player but I buy a gaming system for games not movies. I've had my PS2 since release day and I'm very happy with it. Not only do I get to play the huge selection of PSone games...I get to play the huge amount of PS2 games also. I've got 11 games for the PS2 right now and that number will probably be up past 15 by years end. With Sony having the rights to Grand Theft Auto until 2004 and 2 GTA games in progress I'd stick with the PS2. The PS2 is also going online in August in the US and by winter I'll be playing FFXI online :D |
The controller on the Xbox is so comftorable the ps2 controller fells to small in your hands and makes you cramp up (they are made for small asian ands) Most of the games that are out for ps2 has come out for Xbox since 95% of the games on ps2 are third party. Yes, you have to buy the dvd remote for the xbox but can you argue with the HDTV quality that you get ? The ps2 resolution doesn't even come close to the Xbox. And the sound on ps2 is a JOKE. Ripping your favourite songs to the Xbox hard drive (which the ps2 doesn't even have) requires a cdrw disc so it doesn't matter if it is copyrighted or not you just can use a CDR. lol the Xbox has been online since last year (using gamespy) And the real online by microsoft is also launching in august where more then 10 games will be available while the Ps2 has a couple. The ps2 requires an ethernet port, hard drive that will cost over $150 while the Xbox has it built in for free. For 200.00 you are getting a great deal. The ps2 is a JOKE. |

| my brother tests video games for activision, so i asked him this uqestions, and he said, "yes xbox has better graphics, but is that all you are looking for?" he says "go with ps2 cuz it has more games and more selection of games, you can give up the better graphics for the better games" |

Your brother dose not know what he is talking about (no offence) The PS2 has already been out for a couple of year's and the system is outdated. If your brother works for activision he will know how hard it is to develop a game for it's complicated internal structure which all the developers seem to dislike. Name games that on ps2 that are better then the xbox's game libary that haven't already came out on the Xbox??? There arent ANY.

Microsoft has already sold over 2 million Xbox's while playstation 2 couldnt even deleiver them to the public during it's launch. Don't worry about ms they have enouph money to keep the xbox aliver for years to come. Just another reason to get Xbox. |

guys i didn't know it was such a pain in the ass to play backed-up copies on both ps2 and xbox . last summer i had my friend's dreamcast at home and i remember all i had to do is to load the boot cd and then play all the games i burned . i noticed it's not the same for ps2 and xbox ...
can someone explain to me how this crap works ? what mod chip do i need ? and what's gameshark ? |

It is very difficult to get coppied games on the Xbox and ps2. The Xbox usees DVD-9 disks which hold way more memory then a original dvd disk. That is why the games on the xbox are insane with huge levels and endless effexcts. Which makes impossible for a normal computer to make an xbox game. I'm sure once companies come out with a burner for this type of dvd it wil lbe possible. The ps2 is also very difficult to use coppied games because developers are starting to burn the data on the disk inverted which only the ps2 can read. it will costs lots of money to play coppied games on the xbox and ps2 beause of the upcoming technology. It isnt even worth the try.
Gameshark is a cheat enabled hardware that lets you use lots of cheats in game systems. |

few facts:
- PS2 uses not a graphic circuitry by ATI... you confuse with GameCube
- PS2 has sucky image quality compaired to XBOX because of the limited graphic memory (only 4 MEGS was it??? damn sony)
- PS2 does have most games out there... Then again, quality is not quantity.. Unfortunatelly, XBOX games are hardly "attractive" or unique, imho
- new PS2 modechips work miracles, allowing to play both copied DVDs and CDs
- half of PS2 games come (or used to come) on CDs
- XBOX controller is an abomination
- XBOX's hardware isn't "hot" by today's standards either, if we are to compaire components: a p3 733 with a "GeFarce" 3
- out of three consoles out now, XBOX is the big "loser", with Nintendo outselling it with its game cube
- XBOX is the first console that is subject to BSOD... Modified Windows CE is hardly a sexy system... Microsoft, enough said.
- XBOX is BIG and UGLY, but PS2 is small and.. umm. ugly too ;)
That being said, how about upgrading/buying new computer, and being happy instead? I mean, XBOX is such a waste of money.. That, and I'm not quite sure that XBOX is moddable as of now.
Consoles are a waste kinda... Computers all the way. But if I would of been buying, I would go with PS2... a no brainer, kinda... |

i have PS2 and Xbox. We bought Xbox first decided it sucked.then bought PS2....people compare graphics between the two one stating that xbox has better graphics yadda yadda HDTV;first of all you have to consider the actuall game too,and the actual difference in graphics. The game graphics - project gotham vs GranTurismo Aspec --project gotham graphics are well...awesome but the actual game SUCKS BALLS!! granturismo is probably the best driving game out there....period and the graphics are pretty damn good i dont care what anybody says. On to DVD and HDTV capabilities -- who the hell has HDTV anyway;its ungodly expensive and what do you get? about 3 compatible channels margially better dvd quality(unless you are sitting 6 inches away from your tv then its pretty cool) and Xbox compatibility..oh dont forget to subtract 3 grand from you wallet. So the HDTV thing is a mute point as far as im concerned. DVD playback: if you use a damn console to play back dvds your a fricken schmuck...to even see the dvd playback argument on the side of the Xbox HDTV argument seriously disgusts me because if you have HDTV you should also have enough money for a kick ass DVD player and not even be entertaining the idea of watching your dvd from a damn Xbox...dvd playback from a console...ahh still makes me laugh. Continueing on to the difference in graphics -- i admit the graphics on the Xbox are better no bones about it, but does that mean the graphics on the PS2 are bad? of course not, look at FFX, FIFA world cup(awesome game btw), Tiger woods PGA Tour...and many other that have superb graphics...ok enough Xbox bashing...i still have hope for the Xbox i read about a cool looking mech game which has a costom controller with ike 35 buttons or something..so it seems there are cool games in development and Xbox may have a strong future but im living right now and i vote PS2 as the clear winner right now. oh yeah online stuff....my online argument is similar to the dvd argument...why settle for second best....if i want to play something online ill go to my PC thankyou very much wether it be CS, or DAoC or whatever pc ownz for online games, i just dont think consoles should even go there...although some things may be cool like sports games online....but im contradicting myself and will shut up now....

Aabomonation?? that might be your opinion since me and everyone i know love the Xbox controller. Let fastmp3 try them booth out and see what he likes. Since everyone has their own opinion.
Are you saying that the ps2's hardware is hot by todays standards? What are you backing that up with? Xbox's hardware has everything you need with its hard drive, ethernet port and hdtv compatability. Hdtv is the future of tv's and only xbox supports it. Ever play ps2 on a widescreen? Its pathetic the reseloution is all stretched out. With Xbox you can use ANY tv you want and still get the best quality.
Have you had any problems with it's modified Windows CE software? The Xbox can boot up in under 6 seconds, while that ps2 is lagging. The load times on the ps2 are a joke. The Xbox uses it Hard drive to load the software. There is hardly any loading through out the game.
Please tell me how the Xbox is a waste of money :rolleyes: Todays computer games dont look half as good as Xbox. Since developers have to make a computer game work on ALL kinds of computers. That being said you Never get full potentail out of computer games. Xbox has a fixed hardwarwe were developers can use all of the xbox's potential. Play Halo and you will see what i mean.
Can you back this statment up?? I would really like to see some proof here. |

What about the people that already have an HDTV ?? Why would someone be a schmuk if they use Xbox as a DVD player? This makes no sence at all :rolleyes: You mentioned Fifa world cup, and Tiger woods on the ps2, These games are also on Xbox and look better then the ps2 version. |

Yes but do they play the same? I played this one baseball game on XBox and it lagged like a bitch...everytime I hit a homerun the camera couldn't follow the damn ball. Graphics are not everything in a game...the true thing to a game is the gameplay.
We all know u're a diehard XBox fan and all you do is bash the PS2, I mean your sig is even an ad for XBox. Sooner or later u're gonna have to face reality: The XBox is dying.
As for good PS2 exclusive games: Grand Theft Auto 3 (Sony has the rights to the GTA series until 2004 I believe), Final Fantasy 10 (11 out in Japan and comes to the US @ the end of this year), Metal Gear Solid 2, Gran Turismo 3, Devil May Cry...oh the list could go on.
Name me some more good XBox games OTHER than Halo and Jet Set Radio Future... Halo this, Halo that...pretty much all I ever hear about XBox.

I was going to write something similar. FastMP3, you'd better take the advice of the people here who got both consoles or none. These people have no personal interest in swaying you over to "their" side. If I had a console of a type nobody else was buying, I'd be panicking about future game support as well - and might not give totally un-biased advice.

I've tried Halo (multiplayer), and fail to see what so great about it. Maybe it's the single-player mode that's the killer...But I've tried a demo of some game called Cel Damage, which was hillarious. Hope it gets released for standard PCs. |
