Best mid-range CDJ? (CDJ400 or CDJ800)

I am using Traktor Duo. I had really basic CDJs for the longest time (denon dns-1000). I recently sold those and bought some used tech 1200s. I really like the tech 1200s in general, but one thing that I really dont like is the pitch slider. the fact that its +/- 8% and only whatever length (like 12 cm or whatever) means that its very hard to hit that exact point to perfectly beatmatch the songs. Like I get it really close but then i try to make 1 further correction to reach 'perfection' and i end up over-adjusting the pitch and f-ing it up even more. Its just because even the slightest movement on the pitch slider moved the pitch a relatively significant amount. On my old denon cdjs I used to set the pitch slider to +/- 4% so you can see why I am frusterated with the pitch slider on the technics! I tried to mod the pitch slider on the technics to +/-3% but I couldn't figure out how to do it correctly.
So overall I really like using my tech 1200s with traktor but I find myself spending far too much time trying to keep the songs beat matched and too little time actually 'mixing'. Ideally I would like to just keep using the techs and adjust the pitch slider range but it doesnt look like that is going to happen.
So I am thinking of getting some CDJs again as I can get CDJs to beatmatch perfectly with much more ease. I am having trouble deciding what would be my best option though. Ideally I would like to get the CDJ1000mk3 but thats out of my price range. I can get the CDJ800MK2 for 895 a piece (new), and I can get the cdj400 for 790 a piece (new).
I like the fact that the CDJ400 has the .02% pitch resolution and is cheaper, but I like the big jog wheel on the CDJ800s. I have only used the CDJ1000mk3s and never used either the 400 or the 800.
Has anyone used both of these CDJs? what are your thoughts? Is the jog wheel on the 400s too ty? does the .05% pitch resolution on the CDJ800s put them at a disadvantage?
PS. I know there is already a similar thread on this but it didn't give me enough useful information...
BTW I am planning on using these with Traktor Duo.
Does anyone have any thoughts? |

| For me it would come down to using multiple forms of media such as CD, memory stick, portable hard drive, or cpu hard drive for tracks. Simply because of that, I would pick the 400. |

| Do you scratch? Will you want to in the future? If yes, go 800. If not, go 400. |

Yeah I dont scratch at all.
I just play techno, minimal, deep house, a bit of progressive and tribal.
I also dont need the USB part (CDJ400) since I will be using it with traktor and dont mind using the timecoded CDs.
I will most likely go with the 400s. I will admit I do really like the large jog wheel though... but i only use it for adjustments during a mix (ie. pitch bending) so a big wheel is pretty much overkill.
Basically what I am asking is: has anyone used the CDJ400 and absolutely hated using the smaller jog wheel? and if you do, is it because you have always used the CDJ1000/800?
Ideally I would like to test out some cdjs on my own for an hour or two but I dont think thats possible! |

| Are there any stores that carry it in-stock and on display? In the US, Guitar Center carries DJ equipment and has some out for demo, but the selection varies by store (larger ones are more likely to have the higher-end stuff like Pio CDJs out). |

Yeah I am in Toronto, Canada... and none of the places I know have them out for demo! They have them on display though so i guess I could just go and check it out.. I guess i dont really need to have it plugged in to get a feel for it. |

| I don't mind the jog wheel on the 400. it's obviously not as good as the 800 or 1000 but its still easy to use and the difference wont effect your ability to mix. |

+1 for learn how to beatmatch.

| I have used and owned the CDJ-1000MK3, CDJ-800MK2 and CDJ-400. Out of all those, I would choose the 400. The 400 is the only one out of the three that comes with effects, but since you're using Traktor, I guess it doesn't matter. Another thing is that the 400 is MIDI and has in internal sound card, whereas the other two don't. The smaller jog wheel isn't a big deal unless you plan on scratching. The .05 pitch resolution on the 800's was very annoying for me, which caused me to switch over to the 400's and I would never look back. |
