As a Chicane and Faithless fan I don't think Chicane even comes close to Faithless, but that's just my opinion. |

I would say all of it has got to do with your personal taste as I don't even rank Chicane among the top 50 trance producers of that era. Probably not even among the top 100. |

There's substance. You just missed it. Although I must say it's wonderfully predictable that you'd assume I'm an anti-trance elitist because I don't agree with you. You know - the same automatic defence mechanism of every trance cracker in the building.
As everyone who pays attention knows, I like trance. I like Chicane too. That is irrelevant. |

I still think 1998-2001 for him was absolute tops.
Second is Sasha 1997-2001, basically San Fran GU to Ibiza GU. Again, I feel he really defined what progressive-trance is. He brought the emotion and lushness of trance to the underground and made it heady.
Third is Dave Ralph, same period, 2001 ish. for the same reason. He might not have gotten the same recognition as Sasha but Tranceport 2 was absolutely incredible, one for the tracks/programming and two because of the time period. He and Sasha had, for me, the greatest sound ever during that period. To this day Tranceport 2 Disc 1 is my all time favorites mix.
btw... great question. Hopefully trolls wont fill it up with BS. Would love to read further. |
What happened to Dave Ralph? He never really seemed to do much (to my knowledge) after Tranceport 2.. but that was such a classic CD, I turned a whole lot of people on to electronic music via that one CD way back upon its release.
And as a response to the original question, I say Sasha from the period of '97 - '04. |

Even with a definition measuring still could be a problem.
Personal taste however IMO should not be involved in questions like this, unless the question would be like:"Whose prime of your favourites was the greatest?". But I don't think that was meant. |
