The things like pinch zoom are multi-touch gestures.

So can those of us with Android 2.0 look forward to 2.1 or do most phone manufacturers not release updates like that for OSs, leaving you to wallow in older technology through your 2 year contract. :p

You have the droid I'm assuming? I got the cliq and motorola hasn't comitted to updateing the phone beyond 1.5 yet, possibly because of the custom motoblur UI they got on it. Since the Droid doesn't have that so they should update it.

With WinMo its possible to upgrade, with Android i believe it is as well, [we] symbian users are out of luck, maemo...dont know, still too new.

The OS happens through a software push that Android will do. I don't think it's necessarily up to Motorola.

Most of the manufacturers are releasing updates for all their Android based devices. The only exception seems to be HTC with their non-Google branded devices like the Rogers Magic and Dream. It even appears that T-Mobile is going to put 2.0 on the G1.

It is up to both the carrier and the manufacturer. If the carrier wants it, the manufacturer will probably provide it.

HTC updated the G1 and the mytouch with 1.6 a few months ago, and they've said they will put 2.0 on the hero when its ready. A lot of cliq users are upset at motorola because they aren't even acknowledging if they will update it or not. I think they should at least come out and say if they will or won't, even without a timeframe.

He wishes he did. Every time he whips that piece of out, people don't go "oh, cool phone bro!", they go "wtf is that fisher-price lump of ?!" And then he needs to reel of a huge ass speech he committed to memory about how it is better than the iphone because he can check his stocks whilst he browses the web for a hotel and checks his email at the same time. And how it has a higher resolution and a better camera so he can send his parents pictures of his graduation from douche school.

All the while no one cares. It looks like and performs like , and is . And it drives owners to suicide having to compare themselves to an iphone all the time.

Just lost my Iphone couple days ago, its either BB bold 9700 or Iphone 3GS. Im leaning towards BB just for the change, though im gonna miss my iphone apps.
