My guess as to why dance music is more disposable than ever

I hadn't listening to this song for months, so the other day I listened to Rank 1 - Symfo. All of the excitement surrounded by listening to a new track was gone, and my enjoyment was being supplanted by low level anxiety.
I heard somewhere that over compressed music can create this effect.
So now I don't even want the damn thing on as background music because it will bother me. The only part that I could enjoy was the drop because it wasn't so in your face.
edit:
On the other hand...I can listen to Quivver - Brothers and Sisters over and over. It has more microdynamics than most pop EDM. |

The music industry is so unstable right now that labels are terrified to put money into anything that is not 'guaranteed' to sell a ton of units. They're only interested in what's 'safe', which is why we hear the same tired garbage over and over again. It's a fear thing. |

Don't be so pessimistic. EDM these days IS because it's way too easy for some moron to try and be a DJ Hero and make some tunes. Let the DJ be your guide. Find a favorite DJ and listen to his sets. They'll do the picking for you and then you don't have to go through all the crap music. |

compression is a big problem yes. please help stop it by dont buy overcompressed music and forget about the ty mastering fashion when producing yourself. |

I disagree. I feel the loudness wars are really calming down as the public is becoming aware of the engineer's error. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war |

calming down isnt enough, me must go 15 years back in time to get good sound again. 1994, everything sounded ing awesome. |

You just have to take modern music for what it is. The best of it are still great songs, loud as they may be ... Engineering is one thing, song writing is just as important, though. |

Agreed. Bring back early-mid 90's production. |

Too far back. Mid 90s and everything wasn't clear enough in most tracks and the mastering was woefully inadequate compared to today, yet today it's overdone.
Middle ground is what we need. With everything we've learnt over the years and the kickass equipment we now have, why would we want to go back to an inferior product? |

because no matter what gear u have the standard is still 16bit, and that only allows what it allows. and not to mention mp3, we have 1/4th of the avaliable info in todays "best" commercial format compared to CDs in the 90s. and thats the best. normal is half of that again, like 1/8th or 1/12th of the info compared to before. mp3, compression and all that . goodnight. |
