I still think Michael J. Fox should have gotten the lead for "Shutter Island". :nervous:

What's with the sudden rise in popularity of movies with Boston accents? The Departed, Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island (two with Scorsese and Leo with this Boston accent kick?), and now the new Mel Gibson one coming out next week "Edge of Darkness".... is it supposed to make it all seem more gritty or something? It's getting cliche.
yukii
lol, it is cliche. it spices up a movie.

or so they think.

I'm originally from Boston, as are both sides of my family. Fortunately, we moved to Florida when I was young enough to, thank god, shed that accent (which my parents and relatives still have). It's painful to see how some actors butcher it, and I can't tell if the untrained ear notices. Matt Damon, Ben/Casey Affleck, and Marky Mark do it right because obviously that's their native tongue. But Leo's was kinda off, Jack Nicholson and Ed Harris were WAY off, and Mel Gibson's version in the previews of his new flick makes me physically ill. :p

IMO, Gone Baby Gone was the most accurate "Boston subculture" movie of the recent trend.

Come to think about it the TV series Cheers, I don't think anyone bothered to do an accent, except Cliff, which maybe was a smart idea. Do it right or not at all.

Btw, Norm Abram does a mean Boston accent

apple country
looks good, still has nothing on Machete.

If scary white trash is an accurate depiction of Boston's subculture, I'll stick to Newberry Street thanks.

Growing up on the beach in Clearwater was actually much better than Massachusetts... if that's what you mean. Or, if you're talking about accents, most Floridians have a rather generic accent; hicks from small backwoods towns don't really count because the white trash small town accent can be found in just about every state.

naw the Tampa area is nice, as you know i spent lots of time in Florida.

The white trash and negro factor makes the whole state worse than southie:p These 2 factions are not only small town man, come on.

the only normal people in the state do not come from florida.
