He came out with at the controls. rizo can answer that question better, as far as what remixes or productions he's done since then. But as far as his music style goes... he is very unique and special. The songs he plays, the flow of his sets, his style. Sometimes, I hear sets by djs, and I'm like "who is this set by"? It could be anyone, because there are so many dj's that play the same style. But when I hear a Holden set, I know it's him right away, because there are no other dj/producer that play his specific style.

*edit* i'm half asleep, hope that just made sense. i couldn't go to bed without backing up holden. :o

yeah i've heard that...I've only really been into edm for the past 3 or 4 years but it's only over the past year or so that it's become the dominant genre of music i listen to / i've been taking it more seriously so to speak

julia i really think if you spent the time digging through music more, you'd find that there isn't anything particularly special about holden. there are probably other djs that play the same sound. after all, the music he plays belongs to other people from other labels who are quite well known in their own right. there are also tons of other djs who if you became as much of a fan of their music as you are of holden's, you'd be able to say their mixes are distinctive as well. people are able to prove this all the time in the tracklist forum when sorting out mislabeled and b2b sets.

holden is special... maybe you're just a hater! :P
gypsygirl
lee burridge
john OO fleming

imo, nicest gentlemen behind the decks and dedicated to their craft and pretty much the funniest too :) i always tell those two, lee you're the party version of john and john is the sober version of lee

great guys and always a great time on the dance floor when they are spinning. extremely talented and just want to throw a great party. don't worry too much about the order in which they play with other djs, non diva behavior and will take the time to talk to you and answer your questions politely.

not sure if that is what you're looking for but that's the way in interpreted your thread :)

Easy Rich, she might think you're just talking on "her djs" for no reason. But to answer your question, the only thing Holden has done in the past few years is that godawful At The Controls mix. I'm not even sure which label it's on, but all the mixes have been crap...even M.A.N.D.Y.'s
rizo
james holden
john 00 fleming
lee burridge
ricardo tobar
fairmont

in reply to rich: 03? if you stopped at balance yes (ffs people in the scene still think he plays prog which i know is rich's fav) but at the controls and idiots are winning are ace! his recent sets are pure bliss! even 'intentionally left blank' is better than most music out today lol jk finding a spectrum of new and old gems that go well together. sure there are others who play similar sound but no one else has exculsives like he does esp when it comes to future bc releases (i have yet to hear anyone else play tobar's teenager or avus' new stuff) or tracks you wouldn't expect in a edm mix like animal collective's my girls or stereo total's chelsea girls and this is without even mentioning IDs. who is even going to bring out micromattic or evil concussion much less heard of em. if holden isnt your taste, fine w/e but saying holden hasnt done anything in the last 7 years is completely wrong! as someone from listed posted on thier fb, "Just saw James Holden. He is a couple years ahead of his time. Great stuff." -- and a good quarter of that set were IDs at that time back in september.

i havent found a local who comes close to james'/bc'ish sound other than jon long. im hoping love tech will be fresh but i think its going to be more dubby than anything else...
+Aziz - Eva (Jon Long Remix) by jonathanlong

bas: i like all four at the controls! i think holden's is better than agoria's in the RA top 50 mixes poll. overall though, good poll :)

Actually Agoria's was pretty sweet, and I was confusing The Idiots Are Winning with Holden's At The Controls. I've actually never heard his mix, but Idiots was pretty annoying to extent of actually being deleted :o
