Also for future reference...can I post interviews in the music discussion forum and also make a post in here linking to that thread? |
He has already been linked, notice he posted earlier? He said he will come back with a bigger reply later because he was on his phone.
As far as I know...no interviews, which means no threads linking to interviews threads in other sections. There's really no difference.
Unless of course Swamper says otherwise so let's see what he has to say when he has a moment to address this. |

Seriously I've been meaning to post something like this..
NYTA has gotten STALE! (is that how you spell it?)
Nothing stays around long enough for a discussion to start.
And nothing makes it past a few pages lately.
And where'd all the random off-topic stuff go :)
Please, if it's relevant to the NY area, leave it be.
Local DJ mixes... let 'em have a thread, it's not like there are so many threads we're going to miss something. The first page of threads on NYTA has been the same for weeks. |

I'll weigh in, but I don't think I have any creative solutions. For me, I see NYTA as not just a subforum of TA, but it's own distinct thing. So, I know we have to follow the overarching rules of TA, but we can tailor it to our area's needs.
I agree that music discussion has become more muted since the opening of the event subforum. In fact, I forget about it so often and I don't trust that it provides the most up to date info. I confess that I've been double checking event stuff using Resident Advisor. Maybe that will change when I get used to the event subforum.
The only simple tweak I can think of is to change the title of the title of the link from "Click Here for Event Listings" to "Click Here for Event Listings and Discussion" The link seems more like the party thread than a place for people to browse and chat.
As for the DJ promo stuff, I think a one thread sticky would increase visibility to all of the mixes. The mixes could be titled akin to how they do it in DJ Promo, so ppl could know what they were getting. If someone was willing to be responsible for maintaining the thread, a listing of mixes could be updated on the 1st post.
Thanks, Zack for bringing up the subject. I think its worthwhile to swap feedback on the structure of the forum.
And lastly, wanted to thank Z for her work in moderating the rabble.

It sounds like a great idea and I wouldn't mind maintaining it but I've been told we already have too many stickies as it is so one of them would have to come down in its place. Likely the least active/useful one. |

You've done a great job so far. I certainly wasn't complaining about the job you've done.
The new rules have been a positive thing for sure. I just think we can now tweek some of them to make the board and community function even better.
About the interviews...the ones you did were with bigger, international djs. So, I can see why they might get moved to the music section. Those are probably more suited towards the music section where those posters all know the interviewees.
In the case of it being a NYC local, I think there is a pretty big distcinction.
About local dj's mixes, I personally like the idea of each DJ maybe having their own thread to keep updated and what not. That way it doesn't get cluttered, and people can easily access a certain dj's older mixes, all in one place. Each DJ could even personalize their own mix thread with their own pics, links, gig info, etc... I think that would be really cool.
About events I guess thats a tougher situation. Unfortunately, really good, TA-relevant events are just getting lost in the shuffle of the new system. Like people said, if we could work events into the main forum on a participation basis (i.e. people who post regularly and contribute regularly to the site) that would be cool. That would give people who want to post parties major incentive to actually contribute, which means more traffic.
Just my 2 pence... :) |

I just look at the Europe Forums.
As far as Music Mixes/Production, I always look at that section, thats what is there for, no need to post it 2x. Lots of great productions/mixes there if you dont look at it. |

i think its inevitable. i think the census is that a D.C. section wouldnt hold its weight as its own section on here.and thats probably true.but a d.c.,maryland,virginia,pennsylvania,delaware thread section WOULD.i routinely meet people from all these areas that come out to dc to see electronic artists.a section for these people would eliminate some of the clutter as well as give these people a chance to have a section they can follow.
if a section is ever created i would volunteer to be a moderator for it.while i might be as well known as some people on this site, coming this march ill have been on this site for 9 years.my relationship with this site has outlasted any personal relationship ive ever been in!and i have no plans to leave anytime soon.
and while being here that long doesent necessarily qualify me to be a moderator i feel ive been here long enough to know how the site works that i could oversee a dc,md,pa,va,de section and run it efficiently.
i started coming to this site back when napster was around(the free service)looking for music.and wound up finding a lot of great friends and great memories in the process.ive gone out of my way to promote tranceaddict and the electric scene whenever i can because i love this site and the music. and ill be on this site long after a lot of people here leave the edm scene for whatever new comes along.
sorry to jump off topic:) at any rate im all for improving the new york section as this is where i usually post.as an outsider im always treated fair here. |

The TOTA sub forum has a DJ mix stickied thread. The mixes are posted on DJ Promotion forum and crosslinked to the sticky thread. But it seems the last post was in 2006 and was discontinued. It looked like a vibrant thread.
As for deciding which sticky to go down, I don't think any do. There are only maybe 5 of them. I think the paid event advertising above the stickies is creating the clutter. But I understand that those must stay. |

lol.
I persoanlly just think it would be a cool, and pretty functional way to keep DJ's sets organized. And Like I said, if each DJ only gets one thread, then it'll give them some incentive to keep it updated, and maybe make it look cool, and personalize it as well.
To those who might say "oh noo, we'll have all these dj's pages cluttering everything up!" That wouldn't be an issue. Its not like djs are posting a new mix every day...and if they did, thats cool. Realistically, a mix would get posted, and in a week, the thread would fall to the later pages, until that DJ decided to post a new mix in the thread and bump it up.
Lets do it! :toothless |
